Watching Herbert rush through the door, so eager to stand up for Sylvie, Hulda only felt the urge to laugh.
"I didn't overthink it. She can stay if she wants. As long as she likes." Hulda's voice was completely flat, devoid of any emotion.
This reaction caught Herbert off guard. He looked at her, clearly surprised. "You really don't mind?"
"Not at all." She nodded calmly.
Herbert's gaze deepened as he stared at her, a complex mix of emotions swirling in his eyes. After a few seconds of silence, he nodded. "Good. You're finally acting like a proper Mrs. Jewell."
Hulda found it both hilarious and deeply ironic. She had finally received a rare word of approval from her husband, and it was all because of Sylvie.
Now that she no longer wanted to be his wife, she was suddenly acting like one.
"It's good that you're here. There are some things that aren't appropriate to discuss in front of the nanny and the kid." As she spoke, Hulda pulled two freshly printed copies of the divorce papers from her bag and pushed them across the desk. "I asked Justin to give you the papers before, but you never responded. I figured you didn't take it seriously, so I brought them to you myself this time."
The moment she pulled out the documents, Hulda caught a fleeting gleam of excitement in Sylvie's eyes.
But she didn't have the energy to care about Sylvie right now.
She looked squarely at Herbert, her voice firm. "Sign them."
Herbert stared at the papers sitting in front of him. He froze for a second before his brows locked together in a tight scowl. His dark eyes were filled to the brim with utter impatience. "Hulda, what exactly are you trying to pull? I merely let Sylvie stay here for a while. She'll move out as soon as she finds a new place. Do you really need to be this unreasonable?"
"Like I said, I have no problem with her staying here." Facing his accusations, Hulda remained perfectly composed. She knew getting angry or arguing was pointless; she just wanted results.
"Herbert, I'm not throwing a tantrum. I genuinely want a divorce." She pushed the papers a little closer to him. "We signed a prenuptial agreement, and these terms are based exactly on that. Read it over. If everything looks right, just sign it."
