Shielded behind Herbert, a flash of panic crossed Sylvie's eyes.
She wasn't sure why Hulda was here or if she was about to announce the finalized divorce papers to everyone.
If Hulda blurted it out, how was Sylvie supposed to explain herself to Herbert?
Sylvie had assumed that since Hulda personally delivered the papers, it meant their relationship was entirely over.
By all logic, Hulda shouldn't be chasing after Herbert anymore!
So why was she here?
What did she want?
Anxious, Sylvie's hand instinctively grabbed the fabric at the back of Herbert's shirt.
Feeling the tight pull against his back, Herbert misinterpreted it as Sylvie being terrified of Hulda. His glare turned even harsher. "Hulda, how did you know we were here? Who told you to come?"
Watching Herbert reflexively protect Sylvie while glaring at her like a threat, Hulda found the entire situation utterly ridiculous.
They were divorced. She had handed him the papers herself.
Did he honestly think his ex-wife was still pining over him? That she was here to bully his precious Sylvie?
Hulda couldn't be bothered to engage, nor did she want to stomach Sylvie's pathetic, damsel-in-distress act for another second.
Turning to the dock staff, she delivered one final warning. "Regardless, please avoid the deep waters for the time being. If you don't believe me, consult an expert or call the meteorological department."
The moment the words left Hulda's mouth, Sylvie latched onto them. "What do you mean? Avoid the deep waters?"
Their entire plan was to sail out to the undeveloped island, which definitely required passing through deep water.
