"Ah! You won! You won, Hulda!" Abby immediately rushed to the fence.
Hulda slipped off her horse and looked up at Caspian, who was still mounted. "Mr. Sterling, you lost."
Caspian looked down at the triumphant smile reaching the corners of her eyes, his own lips curving slightly. "So I lost. Do I look like a sore loser?"
With that, he dismounted and walked straight toward the exit.
"Boss, are you done riding?" Dylan called out, confused.
Ms. Atherton is right here! Why aren't you taking the opportunity to spend more time with her?
"I'm tired," Caspian replied without looking back, leaving those two words hanging in the air.
Dylan glanced at Hulda, then scurried after his boss like a loyal puppy.
Abby pushed up her glasses as she watched Caspian leave. "Loses and immediately runs away. Talk about being a sore loser."
Thanks to that high-speed lap, Hulda was still buzzing with adrenaline. Caspian's absence was for the best; now she could just enjoy herself in peace.
"Want me to teach you how to ride, Abby?"
"I'd love that!" Seeing Hulda look so badass had sparked Abby's own interest.
Just then, a senior instructor walked over. "Good afternoon, ladies. I am one of the senior coaches here. How about I teach your friend the basics of riding?"
Hulda thought about it and nodded. "That works. A professional coach will be much more thorough than me."
With that settled, Abby began her basic lessons in a small perimeter ring with the coach.
Meanwhile, Hulda took the chestnut mare and freely galloped around the main track.
By the time they left the arena, Hulda hadn't received a single follow-up call from Caspian.
As late afternoon approached, Abby suggested taking a walk by the ocean to catch the sunset.
