Caspian looked down at the woman, her expression a clear mask of forced restraint. Sighing in defeat, he said flatly, "Go pick a horse. Ride a lap with me."
"That's it?" Hulda didn't believe for a second that he'd dragged her all the way down here just for a casual ride.
"I give the orders. You follow them."
Evidently too lazy to explain himself, he swung smoothly into the saddle of his black horse and began a slow walk around the track.
Hulda didn't waste time arguing. She turned, went to the stalls, and soon emerged leading a beautiful chestnut mare.
Seeing this, Abby hurried over. "Hulda, you know how to ride?"
Hulda patted the horse's neck, her eyes darkening slightly. "Yeah, I learned when I was a kid. It's been a long time, though. I'm not sure if I still have it."
Abby instantly grew nervous. "Then you need to be careful." She shot a nasty glare in Caspian's direction. "Is that guy trying to get you hurt? He didn't even ask if you knew how to ride."
Hulda chuckled. Caspian Sterling did whatever he pleased without a single care for anyone else's feelings. Let alone hers.
Caspian completed his warm-up lap and stopped near Hulda. "Mount up," he ordered coldly. "Loser takes a penalty."
The man's condescending, arrogant tone instantly ignited her competitive spirit.
A penalty for the loser?
Then all she had to do was win.
Hulda put her foot in the stirrup and swung herself onto the saddle with silky grace.
The fluid, seamless motion made Abby's eyes go wide.
Wow!
Director Atherton looked incredibly cool just now.
"You've got this!" Abby cheered, pumping her fist in the air.
Hulda gave her a nod, then pulled the reins to steer the chestnut mare up to the starting line, right beside Caspian's towering black stallion.
At the arena staff's signal, Hulda gripped the reins, squeezed her legs, and shot forward instantly.
Caspian hesitated for half a second, but thanks to his horse's superior stride, he quickly closed the gap.
