Before she could even stand up, Herbert's face darkened, and he aggressively marched over to her.
"What are you doing here?"
His voice was kept low, but the fury blazing in his eyes was unmistakable.
"I am the—"
"Mrs. Jewell!" Sylvie rushed over, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Herbert, and anxiously cut Hulda off. "I know you're upset, but this isn't the time to throw a tantrum. Important leaders from the institute are arriving for an inspection today. If you ruin this, the consequences for Mr. Jewell and the entire company will be disastrous!"
This was the very first time Sylvie had ever spoken to Hulda without looking like a terrified victim ready to beg on her knees.
Perhaps being on her home turf gave her confidence, or maybe she just needed to maintain her professional facade in front of the staff.
Seeing that Hulda remained entirely unbothered and hadn't even moved from her seat, Sylvie pressed on. "Can you please not drag him down at the most critical moment of his career?"
Her words acted as the ultimate trigger for Herbert's rage.
"Leave. Right now. Or I'll have security throw you out!"
Sylvie was right. Hulda only ever dragged him down. She never once considered his needs or the bigger picture.
Seven years ago, she had drugged him and forced him into bed just so she could secure the title of Mrs. Jewell.
He had taken responsibility like a man. He married her and gave her the status and dignity of being his wife.
Why wasn't she satisfied? Why did she have to keep causing trouble?
On such a vital day, she had shown up completely unannounced just to cause a scene.
