The brief episode at the Jewell household didn't dampen Hulda's mood. In the days that followed, her work at The Conrad Atherton Institute proceeded exactly as planned.
Under her leadership, the Quantum Crystal Laboratory was successfully relaunched.
Brandon brought up the tech company's invitation for a face-to-face meeting again. This time, Hulda agreed outright. However, she felt that rather than having them come to the institute, it would be much more effective if she visited their headquarters to inspect their qualifications and products in person.
Brandon eventually agreed with her suggestion and decided to schedule the on-site visit within the next day or two.
Meanwhile, Hulda hadn't forgotten about another important matter.
Her good friend Brandon's birthday was just around the corner. He was a wine aficionado. Even during her years away from the institute, she had always made a point to send him a nice bottle of wine on his special day.
This year would be no exception.
After work, she didn't head straight home. Instead of visiting her usual wine shop, she went to an exclusive, members-only private winery recommended by one of the institute's researchers. Luckily, the researcher had an active membership there.
Located on the serene outskirts of the city, the winery boasted fresh air and beautiful scenery. It wasn't just a place to buy wine; it was a popular venue for all sorts of upscale gatherings.
As soon as she walked through the doors, a smiling attendant greeted her. "Good evening, ma'am. How can I help you today?"
"I'm just looking for some wine," she replied politely. The attendant nodded and guided her toward the wine selection area.
Across the room, separated by an elegant art display, Justin Jameson was hosting a private tasting for a few investment banking friends.
He had recently acquired a bottle of wine with a sixty-year vintage.
At that moment, he was waiting for the winery manager to finish decanting it.
His gaze swept across the room and casually landed on the faint, graceful silhouette standing behind a white privacy screen not too far away.
Noticing his distracted stare, a friend turned to look and chuckled. "Ooh, what has caught our Mr. Jameson's eye?"
"I have to say, even through that screen, her silhouette is absolutely stunning."
"Who knows what she looks like in person, though."
The group of wealthy young men laughed.
