"I guess we're not... outgunned anymore, are we?"
Melanie let out a breathless laugh, tilting her head toward him to whisper back.
"Now we're just bullying them with numbers."
That brief, intimate exchange between the two felt like a physical blow to Dominic.
It was like needles stabbing directly into his eyes.
Seeing Gabriel's arrival, Holden, Gavin, and Thorne all quickly stepped forward.
"Vice President Whitmore... to what do we owe the pleasure? Your presence graces our humble facility!"
Holden offered a plastic, entirely unconvincing smile.
"Indeed, Vice President Whitmore, what a surprise to see you here," Thorne chimed in.
Thorne was practically falling over himself to make conversation.
Even though his deepest ties were with the Lockridge Group, Stellaris PharmaTech was the absolute titan of Averin. Gabriel was a contact he desperately needed to keep happy.
Gabriel just shrugged and let out a scoff, completely disregarding their attempts at pleasantries.
"You actually have the nerve to ask me that? If I didn't show up, you guys would drag Stellaris's reputation right through the mud."
Gabriel's blunt accusation caused Holden's polite facade to slip.
"Vice President Whitmore, I am your elder. Don't you think it's a bit disrespectful to hurl baseless accusations at me?"
Realizing Holden's tone had soured, Thorne immediately tried to play peacekeeper.
"Come now, Vice President Whitmore... let's just talk this out reasonably!"
"Oh, please!"
Gabriel let out a dramatic, mocking laugh and clapped his hands.
"Bring him in!"
At his command, two of the suited men dragged another man roughly to the front of the room.
The moment Dominic saw the man's face, he went deathly pale and immediately turned his back.
