Everett Kingsley's heart plummeted.
Even without a shred of proof for his paranoia, a suffocating wave of guilt threatened to drown him.
In truth, Everett hadn't looked too closely at the photos Melanie Royce posted on her Feed.
At first, he assumed they were pictures of Melanie herself.
But Melanie never posted selfies.
At least, not the Melanie he knew.
So, initially, his curiosity had been piqued.
However, when he realized the barrage of photos featured Daphne Morrell instead of Melanie, an ominous sense of dread washed over him.
The Daphne in those pictures looked entirely different from her usual self.
She was decked out in high-end designer labels, looking like she belonged on a runway.
The outfit change was highly uncharacteristic, and Melanie specifically tagging him in the post made it even more suspicious.
Sensing something was horribly wrong, Everett immediately stopped scrolling through her Feed.
When Melanie later asked him which style looked best, Everett honestly thought all the dresses were stunning—
Assuming Melanie was the one wearing them.
But seeing Daphne in them felt utterly wrong.
Perhaps it was just because Daphne usually lived in sweatpants and casual wear.
Gripping his darkened phone, Everett's mind spiraled into chaos.
He knew he wasn't just overthinking or being too sensitive.
Melanie had to know something. Why else would she ask for his opinion on Daphne's wardrobe makeover?
Everett's eyes widened in horror.
If Melanie had figured out that he and Daphne had slept together, then...
Then Melanie would never give him a chance in hell, would she?
He squeezed his eyes shut in pure agony, collapsing helplessly onto his desk.
At the Altieri Galleria.
Melanie was at the cash register.
"Melanie, you can't do this."
Daphne stood beside her, desperately trying to intervene.
"These are way too expensive. I can't let you pay for all this. Absolutely not!"
