She Left She Thrived She’s Worth Billions novel Chapter 839

Staring down at his bare skin, Everett froze in pure horror. The shock was so severe it temporarily overpowered his blinding hangover.

Why didn't he have any clothes on?

Taking off his jacket made sense, but taking off his underwear...?

A dreadful pit opened in his stomach. Blurred, chaotic flashes ambushed his mind. He vaguely remembered drinking heavily last night, trading shots with Daphne. At some point, she had helped him stumble up the stairs.

And then...

Everett dug the heels of his palms into his eyes, his breathing turning ragged. Increasingly explicit, messy memories flooded his brain, sending him into a full-blown panic. He scrambled out of bed, frantically pulling his clothes back on, and bolted down the stairs, nearly tripping over his own feet in his haste to reach the first floor.

The club was already open for the afternoon shift. The bartenders and Male Hosts were milling about preparing for the evening. None of them looked surprised to see him charging down the stairs.

"Excuse me, I'm sorry, but... where is your boss?" Everett asked, grabbing one of the Hosts by the arm.

The Host looked him up and down. "You're Everett, right? The guy the boss mentioned?"

"Yes, that's me."

"She said to tell you to go home whenever you woke up. She had some errands to run and left early."

"Where did she go?"

"How the hell should I know?" The Host yanked his arm free, clearly annoyed by Everett's frantic grip.

Left standing entirely alone in the neon-lit club, Everett felt wildly out of place. He pulled out his phone in a panic, only to realize he didn't even have Daphne's number. With zero options left, he hit dial on Melanie's contact.

Melanie had already made it back to the office, with Preston hovering close by.

"Everett? Where are you? Why aren't you at work?"

"Dominic..." Gavin stared dead into the eyes of the man smiling back at him. "The person who snuck that Apex Organics contract into my pile and tricked me into buying it at a premium... was it you?"

Dominic's smile instantly froze. "...What are you talking about? We're brothers. You're actually suspecting me?"

"It's not that I'm suspecting you..."

"Then tell me who put this garbage in your head."

"Melanie did."

The breakroom fell into a suffocating silence. A second later, Dominic burst out laughing.

"Oh, so that's what this is..." He clapped a hand on Gavin's shoulder, feigning complete transparency. "Gavin, we've been brothers for years. You're actually taking Melanie's word over mine? You know how much she hates me. This is such a cheap, pathetic trick to drive a wedge between us."

Gavin stared at him, saying nothing. After a long pause, the tense muscles in his face slowly relaxed.
