She Left She Thrived She’s Worth Billions novel Chapter 833

He was definitely drunk.

How could he have ever believed that Melanie left Preston just because he lost his wealth?

How could he have thought so little of her...

Shaking his head, Everett downed another glass and pushed himself up from the table.

Staying here was pointless. He was nothing but background noise.

Even with his fancy title as the Royce Group's COO, Melanie still barely noticed he existed.

He couldn't stomach watching their chemistry any longer.

Whatever the reason for their breakup, Melanie only had eyes for Preston.

Not him.

He had fully intended to slip out the back.

Yet, somehow, his feet carried him toward the restrooms.

This agonizing indecision kept him anchored.

A pathetic, lingering hope whispered that maybe, just maybe, if he got blind drunk, Melanie would be the one to take care of him.

She was, after all, a deeply compassionate person.

Otherwise, she never would have risked her life to pull him out of a hellhole like The Marlowe District.

Everett felt his mind was mostly lucid, though the alcohol had definitely stripped away his inhibitions.

He downed a glass of water. As he turned to head back to his seat, a loud commotion near the entrance caught his attention.

"Buddy, I'm telling you, the club is booked solid tonight. Go drink somewhere else!"

It was Daphne's voice, sharp and annoyed.

Sounded like some drunk idiot trying to crash the party.

"Are you psycho, Gavin?! I told you it's a private event!"

At the sound of that name, Everett froze mid-step.

By the entrance, Gavin had just violently kicked over a potted Bird of Paradise.

Daphne was absolutely furious.

"Listen to me, you bitch, I am the heir to the Lockridge Group! I'm drinking here tonight! You think you can stop me? Try it and see what happens!"

He was screaming obscenities, looking to Daphne like a man desperate to unleash years of pent-up rage on whoever was closest.

"Oh, so I'm your punching bag now? You think I'm scared of you?!"

Daphne snarled, rolling up her sleeves and stepping directly into his path.

In response, Gavin pulled back his fist, aiming a wild swing right at her.

"What the hell are you doing, Gavin?!"

Suddenly, a tall figure stepped cleanly between them.

Daphne blinked in shock.

The man shielding her was none other than Everett.

"Everett, let me—"

"Step back."

Everett ordered, throwing an arm out to block her. His elbow accidentally grazed her chest.
