She Left She Thrived She’s Worth Billions novel Chapter 794

"Ms. Royce, Jonas... she just resigned."

Her eyes widened in utter shock.

"Since when?!"

"Today... when she realized you weren't in yet this morning, she marched straight into HR and processed the paperwork."

"Without giving the mandatory thirty days' notice? And you just let her walk?"

The HR Director cringed under her furious glare.

"Well... she actually paid double the penalty fee for breaking her contract. Tens of thousands of dollars, upfront!"

The moment the words left the man's mouth, Preston smoothly stepped in.

"I'll take a couple thousand a month. I can cover assistant, driver, and security details."

She couldn't stop her eyes from rolling into the back of her head.

The undisputed ruler of Stellaris PharmaTech was offering to work at her mid-tier firm for minimum wage?

"Preston, you..."

"I accept."

Nathaniel's abrupt approval sent a shockwave through both Melanie and Everett.

"Dad!"

"Mr. Royce..."

Everett looked like he had just been slapped.

The man had spent months aggressively trying to push him and Melanie together.

Knowing Preston was her ex, he was absolutely certain Nathaniel would have thrown him out on his ass immediately.

However...

Nathaniel had his own strategic reasons.

For one, before Preston's family supposedly went bankrupt, the man had gifted him millions of dollars' worth of luxury goods.

Plus, during his hospital stay, Preston had been fiercely attentive and respectful.

It wasn't as if he was completely blind to the younger man's merits.

But his overriding obligation was repaying the life debt he owed the Kingsley family.

And on top of that, Preston was now broke.

A pretty face with zero financial backing was completely useless to the Royce legacy.

Furthermore, he didn't think Preston was an ungrateful bastard.

By tossing him a bone and a paycheck when he was desperate, he was securing leverage.

The kid would be too humiliated by his new lowly status to ever pursue his daughter again.

"I had Gabriel cover her penalty fees, then relocated her to Stellaris PharmaTech's third subsidiary as Deputy Director of Administration. It's closer to her hometown, and the salary is deep into the six figures."

She mockingly gave him a slow clap.

A ten-fold salary increase just for jumping ship. No wonder her assistant bolted without a second thought.

"Let's get one thing straight. Don't think for a second that playing my assistant gets you back in my bed. You know exactly why I dumped you."

At her sharp reminder, he simply nodded.

He knew damn well that until he uncovered the absolute truth of what happened four years ago, she would never take him back.

"I just wanted to be close to you..."

He murmured smoothly, stepping around the massive executive desk and closing in on her.

Sitting in her leather chair, she tipped her head back to look at him.

"A little closer..."

Holding her gaze, he slowly leaned down over her.

At the very least, when she inevitably had to deal with Shawn's toxic games, he would be right there beside her as her official bodyguard.

"Ms. Royce, it's an emergency, our fertilizer supply..."

When the Director of Procurement threw open her door, he was greeted by the spectacular sight of her aggressively headbutting her new assistant right in the face.
