She Left She Thrived She’s Worth Billions novel Chapter 611

At Phoebe's mockery, Everett's face burned crimson.

His suit really wasn't expensive.

It was just an off-the-rack, budget brand.

Since he had only just become COO, he only owned one custom-tailored suit. Terrified of ruining it during the trip, he had packed it safely in his suitcase, intending to change right before the gala.

He hadn't expected...

to be humiliated by a competitor the moment they checked in.

A bitter feeling swelled in his chest as he ducked his head.

"What, lost your voice already?"

Phoebe crossed her arms, looking entirely too smug.

"If you don't want to be mocked, at least dress the part! You look like some country bumpkin wandering into the city. Even if you don't care about humiliating yourself, you should at least consider the reputation of your hosts!"

Her loud insults quickly drew the attention of the other guests in the lobby.

"Who are they? I don't recognize them."

"I think they're from Averin... some pharmaceutical company."

"Right... the Royce Group, I believe."

"Oh, I've heard of them. But what are they doing here? Did the Carter Group invite them?"

"They must have. They have invitations, but as far as I know, their companies have no mutual business."

"Then why were they invited?"

"No idea. But that guy really is dressed cheaply. Is he an assistant?"

"Ms. Thorne said he's their new COO."

Another ripple of snickers echoed through the crowd, making Everett's face burn even hotter.

Keeping his head down, he turned to leave, but Melanie grabbed his arm.

"Where are you going?"

He muttered under his breath.

Phoebe nearly bit her own tongue in outrage.

"Even casual clothes reflect a person's worth! This outfit, for example, is Dior Haute Couture."

Listening to Phoebe's arrogant boast, Melanie swept her gaze over her and replied coolly,

"I believe... a guest's true worth is reflected in the level of hospitality their host provides. Since you're so exceptionally valuable, Ms. Thorne, and such a vital partner to the Carter Group, I assume they've set you up in their most luxurious suite?"

At Melanie's question, the smug grin instantly froze on Phoebe's face.

The Carter Group was notoriously strategic about the accommodations they provided for out-of-town guests.

It was a direct reflection of how much they valued the company and their intentions for future partnerships.

In previous years, only three of their most established clients were given the keys to the exclusive luxury suites.

Every other guest was placed in standard rooms.

Though, to be fair, even the "standard" rooms in this seven-star hotel were equivalent to presidential suites, complete with panoramic balconies and private gardens.

Phoebe glanced down at the standard keycard in her hand, boiling with indignation, yet she refused to back down.
