Jaxson Hayes opened the drawer, popped a loratadine pill from the blister pack, and swallowed it. "Allergies."
Eleanor Hayes admitted that when she saw the marks on Jaxson's neck, she thought he finally had a girlfriend but wasn't ready to bring her home.
Who knew it was just an allergic reaction.
...
Eleanor was somewhat disappointed.
"Jaxson, Seraphina said she wants to intern at the company. Arrange it for her."
"Tell her to follow the standard procedure. She can come in if she passes the interview."
Eleanor frowned, unable to hold back her complaint. "Seraphina graduated from a top university. Does she really need to go through standard procedures for an internship? Jaxson, can't you just bend the rules a little?"
Jaxson lifted his gaze. "No."
Seraphina Judson was beautiful, and her family background matched theirs perfectly. Plus, she had been harboring feelings for Jaxson for years.
What was so wrong with her?
Eleanor stared at her son, feeling increasingly unsettled. She raised her voice. "Jaxson, you're not... into men, are you?"
"..." Jaxson rubbed his temples in exhaustion, struggling to keep his temper in check. "I've had a girlfriend before."
Eleanor's heart settled back into her chest. But before she could ask anything else, Jaxson added, "Same-sex attraction is usually genetic. Instead of suspecting me, you should go ask my father."
Eleanor choked on her words.
What nonsense!
Eleanor didn't know whether to be angry or not. She felt like she had just punched a wall of cotton.
Deciding to drop the matter, she gathered Jaxson's empty dinner plates and left.
If she stayed any longer, he would infuriate her to death.
Next day.
Jaxson had promised Valerie Quinn that he would pick up her son today. As soon as he parked his car, he drew the attention of parents all around.
