Runaway Mommy: My Boss is the Father novel Chapter 41

Luckily, she hadn't gotten too close to Seraphina Judson lately.

Some people had initially gotten ideas when they saw Seraphina walking beside Jaxson Hayes at the company dinner.

Now, those thoughts had completely fizzled out.

Phoebe Vance sat in her chair, her gaze fixed on the spreadsheet on her monitor, but she hadn't scrolled for several minutes.

She truly knew Jaxson inside and out.

She knew him so well that a single look or gesture was enough for her to read his mind.

She also knew that when he questioned Seraphina earlier, he had been angry.

In the past, Phoebe had been terrified of his anger.

He was usually a man of few words, but when he was mad, he gave everyone the silent treatment and exuded a suffocating aura.

Back in college, Phoebe had posted a photo of Jaxson playing basketball on social media, which went viral on the campus message boards, even prompting students from other schools to ask about him.

Even though she deleted it quickly, it still caused him a lot of trouble.

During that time, a crowd would gather to watch him play, eat, and attend class.

It put Phoebe in a tough spot.

She knew he hated having his photo shared and despised being the center of attention, especially when it meant constant interruptions.

For days, Jaxson would look at her with the exact same expression he had used earlier.

As if she had committed an unforgivable sin.

Phoebe had felt completely helpless.

A few days later, for some unknown reason, the crowds vanished, and his life returned to normal.

But he still refused to speak to her.

After a game, he would snatch the water bottle from her hand and tilt his head back to drink, the drops sliding down his neck, radiating raw, explosive masculinity.

Phoebe would gently tug at his pinky finger.

Jaxson glanced at her, listening to her beg, "Jaxson, I know I messed up. Please don't ignore me."

Her voice had been soft, laced with tears.

He had ignored her for a week, but right then, his resolve finally cracked.

He always acted like that whenever they fought, and that incident had been the longest he'd ever held out.
