Let Me Go-2

Kaia’s eyes softened at the memory, a faint smile tugging at her lips. “I was just a child.”

“But you were a feisty child,” Markus said, his tone light. “I miss that Kaia. The one who wasn’t afraid to speak her mind, who believed she could conquer the world.”

Kaia’s smile faded slightly, and she looked down at her hands. “I miss her too,” she said quietly.

There was a long pause, the night growing still around them. Finally, Kaia looked up at Markus, her eyes searching his. “Have you found your queen, Markus?”

Markus shook his head, a hint of sadness in his eyes. “No, Kaia. I wasn’t as lucky as your brother.

haven’t found her yet.”

“I’m sorry,” she whispered.

Markus gave her a reassuring smile. “It’s alright. I’ll keep ruling as best as I can and supporting those I care about. But I am considering seriously taking a chosen mate despite my insistence to wait. I am getting old, Kaia, and I owe it to my people. I can’t wait anymore.”

Kaia nodded, “I am sorry, Markus.”

Markus replied. “That is what it is. You can’t push faith. Maybe it was not meant for me to have a mate. Not everyone is. You’ve been through so much, Kaia. But you’re still here, and that means something. Don’t give up on yourself. Azriel, Lora, and even little Asher-they all care about you.

And so do I.”

Kaia looked at Markus, her eyes filled with a deep, haunting sadness. “My road is at its end, Markus,” she whispered, her voice trembling.

Markus frowned, a look of agitation crossing his face. “What are you saying, Kaia?” he asked, his

tone urgent.

“I can’t take it anymore,” she replied, her voice breaking. “The pain, the torment, the memories, the nightmares… each day is a battle, and I can’t carry this burden any longer.”

The desperation in her voice made Markus’s heart clench. He shook his head vehemently. “Don’t give up, Kaia. Please, don’t give up,” he pleaded, his voice cracking with emotion.

Tears flowed down Kaia’s cheeks as she looked at him with weary eyes. “I’m exhausted, Markus.

So damn exhausted.”

Without another word, Markus pulled her into a tight embrace, holding her as if he could shield her

from the darkness consuming her. “Oh, baby doll,” he whispered, his voice thick with emotion.

Kaia gently pulled away from him, her eyes locking onto his. There was a strange, distant look in

her gaze that sent a chill down Markus’s spine. “Goodbye, Markus,” she said, her voice eerily calm.

Markus stared at her, his mind racing with fear and confusion. He watched her rise from the ground, her movements slow and deliberate. “Kaia, wait,” he called out, his voice laced with panic.

But Kaia only looked back at him once more, a sad look in her eyes, before turning away. Markus’s heart pounded in his chest, an ominous feeling settling in the pit of his stomach.

As she walked away, Markus felt a surge of desperation. He couldn’t let her slip away like this. Hé followed her, his mind a whirlwind of thoughts, his heart heavy with dread. “Kaia, please,” he called after her, his voice echoing in the night.

Kaia paused but didn’t turn around. “I love you all,” she whispered, her voice barely audible. “But I can’t do this anymore.”

Markus’s eyes filled with tears as he watched her disappear into the shadows. The weight of her

words and the finality in her tone left him feeling helpless and heartbroken.

Something in Markus’s instincts screamed that Kaia had dangerous thoughts in her mind. He

considered going to Azriel and Lora, but it was their ceremony today, and he didn’t want to burden

them. Instead, he decided to stay vigilant and keep an eye on Kaia’s house from the shadows, just

in case.

For hours, he remained hidden, his senses on high alert. The moon was high in the sky when he

finally sensed movement. A shadow emerged from Kaia’s house, and he took a deep breath,

recognizing her scent. She was heading towards the forest, and he silently followed her, staying far

enough behind to avoid detection.

They walked for about thirty minutes, the forest growing denser and darker with each step. Finally,

they arrived at a waterfall, its roaring waters crashing down violently. Kaia stood at the edge, staring into the abyss below, the moonlight casting an eerie glow on her figure.

Markus’s heart pounded in his chest. He stepped closer, his voice breaking the heavy silence.

“Kaia, what are you doing here? It’s dangerous near these cliffs.”

Kaia turned to him, tears streaming down her face. “I’m sorry, Markus, but I can’t do it anymore; the pain … is too much,” she whispered, her voice filled with despair. Before Markus could react, she let herself fall backwards, free-falling into the angry waters below.

“Kaia, no!” Markus shouted, panic surging through him. Without a second thought, he dove into the

turbulent waters after her.

The cold hit him like a shock, but his adrenaline kept him moving. The water churned violently

around him, making it difficult to see. He fought against the current, his eyes searching desperately for any sign of Kaia.

After what felt like an eternity, he spotted her, a dark silhouette. With powerful strokes, he reached her, wrapping an arm around her limp body. The current fought to pull them apart, but Markus held

on with all his strength, determined not to lose her.

He kicked towards the shore, the strain on his muscles growing with every second. Finally, he managed to reach a shallow area and dragged Kaia onto the rocky bank.

“Kaia, wake up!” he shouted, shaking her gently. “Please, don’t leave me.”

Her eyes fluttered open, a weak, pained expression on her face. “Markus…” she whispered; her

voice barely audible.

“Stay with me,” he begged, his voice breaking. “I won’t let you go. Not like this.”

She looked at him, her eyes filled with a mix of sorrow and resignation. “I’m so tired, let me go,… please,” she murmured.

“I know, baby doll,” he said, his voice choked with emotion. “But we’re going to get through this. Together.”
