Elora’s hands trembled as she reached out to touch Azriel’s arm, offering what little comfort she
could. “I’m so sorry,” she murmured, her voice thick with sorrow.
Azriel shook his head, his eyes darkening with fury. “I swore that day that I would hunt down every last one of the rogues,” he declared, his voice resonating with determination. “I won’t rest until they
all pay for what they did.”
Elora felt a shiver run down her spine at the intensity of Azriel’s words. “And now… you’ve found
me,” she whispered, her voice trembling with emotion.
Azriel’s
gaze softened as he looked into Elora’s eyes, his heart heavy with the weight of their
shared pain. “Yes,” he replied, his voice barely above a whisper. “And I won’t let anyone harm you,
Elora. I’ll protect you with everything I have. This experience changed me and trust me, now I know
how to deal with them. Maybe at times you will find me too ruthless, but maybe this story will help you understand me better. Why I do certain things and why I can’t show weakness. I am not heartless, my dove. But I have on my responsibility thousands of people that count on me to keep
them safe. And I will do just that. No other families will need to be torn down or broken.”
Her eyes were in tears as she hugged him tightly, “I am so sorry, Azriel.”
He hugged her back as he kissed her hair, “It is OK honey. It hurt me so bad when Mary decided to
leave the pack, but I knew that her pain was too great. I can just hope now that she can re-assess
the situation and see if she is interested in moving back. I understand your ties with her, and I
would be forever grateful to her for everything she did for you, for us. But I can’t let you live far
away from me, my dove.”
Elora nodded in agreement, “I presume that you are right. We can only hope that she has changed
her mind.”
“Let’s talk to her and see what she says,” Azriel proposed.
Agreeing to him, Elora made her way outside when she found Mary on the swing with a sleeping Asher next to her. Looking between them two, Mary smiled content, “It seems that all is fine between you too.”
Azriel smiled back at her, “Yes, Aunt Mary. The Moon Goddess blessed us with a second chance that we didn’t want to waste, so we accepted each other. We just need to make it official in the coming days.”
“This is fabulous news. You have no idea how happy this outcome makes me.” Mary replied, with her eyes full of happy tears.

“Mary, I wanted to ask you something,” Elora said, deciding to go ahead with this vital discussion.”
“Sure, sweetie,” Mary nodded with curiosity.
“During all these years you became a mother to me, a grandmother to Asher and I can’t imagine that you will not be with us anymore. You know that accepting my mate means that I need to move inside the pack. But I am thorn in half, as I can’t imagine leaving you behind, Mary You are family to us, so please consider moving with us.” Elora said in a pleading voice.
After a moment of thoughtful silence, Mary spoke, her voice tinged with both uncertainty and longing. “Elora, you know how much you and Asher mean to me. You brought joy and happiness
into my life,” she began, her words carefully chosen. “And I can’t deny that the idea of being part of
a pack again… it’s tempting.”
Elora’s heart fluttered with hope, but she remained silent, allowing Mary to express herself fully.
“But,” Mary continued, her voice growing softer, “this cottage… it’s been my refuge, my sanctuary.”
She paused, her gaze drifting to the window, where the sunlight danced across the familiar walls.
Elora listened intently, her heart aching with the weight of Mary’s words.
“I don’t know if I’m ready to leave all of this behind, especially as the memories that the pack brings are so painful,” Mary admitted, her voice trembling slightly. “But… I also can’t bear the thought of
being separated from you and Asher. You are not the only thorn in two, and I knew that this
decision would come sooner or later.”
Tears glistened in Elora’s eyes as she reached out and took Mary’s hand in her own. “Mary,
whatever you decide, we’ll respect it,” she said softly, her voice filled with love and understanding.
“You’ve been like family to us, and that won’t change, no matter where we are.”
