Discovery-2

“Who are you?” Elora’s voice came out as a whisper, barely audible over the pounding of her heart.

The man turned to face her; his expression unreadable as he studied her with intense brown eyes.

There was a hint of familiarity in his gaze, as if he had been expecting her.

“I’m James,” he replied, his voice deep and resonant.” Azriel’s Beta.”

Elora’s mind raced as she struggled to process the revelation. What was he doing here? Inside the

cottage, where her son was! Oh Goddess! Asher will be awake soon!

“I… I didn’t expect to see you here,” Elora stammered, her voice tinged with uncertainty and slight

panic.

James regarded her with a mixture of curiosity and intensity, his gaze unwavering as he took a

step closer. “Nice to meet you, Lora,” he said quietly, his voice laced with sincerity. “You are a

person hard to find.”

At the same time, Mary entered the kitchen as she slightly frowned her eyebrows, “James, what

are you doing in my kitchen at 7am? I don’t recall inviting you in.”

James started to laugh. “I am sorry Aunt Mary, but I was extremely thirsty and was dying for a

coffee. Please forgive me. Plus, what better opportunity than this to finally meet our elusive Luna?”

“Hmm, behave boy. You might be the current Beta, but don’t forget who changed your dippers.” Mary replied with a teasing smile.

“Not again, Aunt Mary, please… you always embarrass me with this.” James groaned in fake anger.

“You will live if Azriel doesn’t kill you first for staring at his mate,” Mary replied to him in a sassy

tone.

“Can you blame me? Now, tell me more about yourself, Lora. I heard that you are a doctor. Impressive. Beauty and the brains. No wonder that Azriel is disregarding your current status.” James said, adding some additional tension.

James was a quiet person in general, but he always enjoyed putting people in tight spots to see how they reacted; it was his personal quirk.

Elora looked at him a bit alarmed, not liking his tone too much. She expected people to comment on her rogue status, but she never expected to come from his Beta in such a direct approach, so she decided to reply in the same way, “Any objections, Beta James?”

James smiled teasingly in her direction, “This is to be decided, the jury is still deliberating.”

“Suit yourself,” Lora snapped at him, as she decided to ignore him for the moment as she took her coffee and made her way back to her room.

“This was not too nice from your side,” Mary replied. “Azriel will bite your head for that.”

James smiled, “I know, Aunt Mary, but you know that I always looked out for him. You know what a mess he was after Avril. You were not there to see him going feral every day, each day a bit worse than the previous one. Don’t get me wrong: I am thrilled that he found his second chance, but I need to make sure that she is worthy of him. You know how the rogues are.”

“James, I have known Lora for years, and she is not what you think. So, don’t push it too far. She does not deserve this.” Mary pleaded with him.

“Hmm, let’s see.” James replied before entering the back garden and taking a seat in one of the sun lounges.

Just then, his senses became alert when he felt a strange presence nearby, as all his senses went on overdrive.

He placed his coffee on the ground as his body prepared for the possible threat, but suddenly he saw a small boy with dark hair and green eyes looking at him curiously.

“Who are you and what are you doing here?” the boy asked him in a serious voice, with a frown.

For a second, James wanted to start laughing as he looked at the little pal. “I am James, and I am Mary’s friend.”

“I never saw you before,” the boy probed in a suspicious voice as he circled him.

James was beyond amused, liking the kid instantly. His approach, his attitude, his instincts. He

sniffed in the child’s direction and, to his surprise, he smelled like his Luna.

“What’s your name?” he asked him.

After a long pause, the boy replied, “I am Asher Walsh.”

“Well, nice to meet you, Asher Walsh. And what are you doing here?” James added.

“I live here,” the boy replied simply.

“You live here?” James asked, slightly confused. As to his knowledge, Mary had no other children

or nephews, so who was this little brat?

“Yes, I live here with Aunt Mary and my mom,” Asher replied.

“Who is your mom?” James asked, curiously.

“Lora Walsh is my mother. She is a doctor,” the boy replied in a proud tone.

Suddenly, James froze in shock, realizing the truth. Looking at the child he could see clearly the same green eyes, the same dimples. This was not possible! Azriel’s mate already has a child?!

James realized the gravity, as he felt his heart squeezing in pain for his friend. Considering that Azriel didn’t mention this, it meant that he had no idea.

Damn rogue woman! He cursed in his head, as he grabbed his mobile to call his Alpha. Azriel has to learn the truth immediately, before spreading more news about him having a mate. Having one already with a child could mean a lot of issues with the Council in terms of succession and even in terms of reputation.

With his heart beating hard, he awaited in tension as Ariel picked up the call.

“What’s the matter, James?! Do you sense any threat?” Azriel growled in unrest.

“Alpha, I just found out something that I need to make you aware of on an urgent basis,” James

replied grimly.

“What’s the matter?” Azriel asked, agitated, not liking James’s tone at all.

“Are you aware that your second chance mate has already a pup?” James asked in a cautious

voice.

After a few moments of complete silence, Azriel erupted from the other side of the phone, “What

the fuck are you talking about?!”
