Serious Discussion II-2

Azriel’s eyes widened in disbelief. “And the newborn… Is alive?”

Markus looked at him, the conflict plain in his eyes. “Yes, she’s alive. It’s a baby girl. Right now, I’m keeping her hidden, isolated in a secure room. But Azriel, I have no idea what to do with her.”

A long, heavy silence settled between them as Azriel processed what Markus was saying. The implications of it. The horror and yet… the fragile hope that came with the existence of this child.

“We swore,” Azriel finally said, his voice filled with the weight of their oath, “that we would kill every single one of them. To avoid any future trouble. We knew what keeping even one of them alive could mean for our people, for all the species. You know this. We can’t allow history to repeat itself.”

Markus’s shoulders sagged as he nodded, but there was a deep sadness in his eyes. “I know. Believe me, I do. And I know it can be considered for the greater good. To make sure none of their evil roots survive.” His voice shook slightly as he continued. “But… how can I kill a helpless newborn, Azriel? I just… I can’t. Plus, I am not even sure of her species, if she is lycan or something else.”

Azriel’s heart tightened at the raw emotion in Markus’s voice. He could see his friend’s inner turmoil. The weight of leadership and the cost of their oaths had always been heavy, but this…this was something else entirely.

Markus continued, voice trembling slightly, “I know what we’ve sworn to do. I know it might be the safest path. But every time I think about it… every time I see that tiny, innocent face, I just can’t bring myself to do

it.” He looked up at Azriel, eyes filled with conflict. “I can’t be the one to kill her, Azriel. I don’t know what

this means for the future, but… I just can’t take the life of a newborn baby. It will not make me better than

them.”

Azriel remained silent for a long moment, his mind racing through every angle of the situation. He knew

Markus wasn’t exaggerating; this baby could be dangerous, a potential vessel for the evil that had already

brought so much pain and destruction to their world. But she was also innocent, born into a chaos she

had no part in creating.

“She’s just a child,” Markus whispered, almost to himself. “I can’t condemn her for being born into the wrong pack, the wrong circumstances, the cursed species. But what if we’re wrong, Azriel? What if sparing her causes more harm in the future?”

Azriel looked at his friend, sensing the weight of the dilemma in every word Markus spoke. His own mind churned with the same thoughts. He knew what was at stake, but he also understood the pain and the moral struggle in Markus’s heart. There was a difference between fighting an enemy and killing an

innocent.

“This is a difficult decision,” Azriel finally said, his voice low. “I don’t know if there’s a right or wrong answer here. But you’re right…it’s a newborn. A life that hasn’t been tainted by the darkness of her people… yet.” He took a deep breath, knowing that whatever choice they made, it would change things.

Markus nodded, visibly relieved to hear that Azriel understood his struggle. “What do we do, Azriel? I need your guidance. I don’t want to make this decision alone.”
