As Lora and Azriel made their way back to the royal ballroom, every eye turned toward them. The atmosphere shifted, filled with awe and shock. Whispers rippled through the crowd like wildfire, fueled by the news of Lora’s stabbing. It hadn’t even been an hour since the attempt on her life, and yet here she was, walking tall, speaking, laughing, and radiating an untouchable power.
The air was thick with tension, but also with respect. Those who had witnessed the events from the fringes or heard the recounting were now seeing with their own eyes what made Lora Storm and Azriel such an unstoppable force. Together, they had single-handedly faced down the lycan threat, healed the
pandemic ravaging the packs, and now, even after a direct assassination attempt, they stood resilient, unshaken, more powerful than ever.
Lora could feel the weight of all the gazes upon her, but it didn’t faze her. She stood tall, the image of
strength and grace, with Azriel at her side like an unmovable pillar. His arm rested protectively at her
waist, and while he exuded calm on the surface, she could sense the tension simmering beneath. His
body was coiled, ready to react to any further danger.
As they moved deeper into the crowd, Lora’s attention was drawn to the approach of two familiar figures, Alpha Ben and Luna Clara, Alex’s parents. And trailing behind them, with a noticeable hesitation in his step, was none other than her estranged father, Beta Graham Black.
Azriel stiffened beside her, his grip tightening slightly. Lora glanced at him, her eyes narrowing slightly in surprise, but she quickly refocused on the approaching trio.
“Elora,” Alpha Ben began, his voice tentative, the weight of what had transpired clear in his tone. But before he could continue, Azriel’s sharp voice cut through the air like a blade.
“It is Luna Storm, Alpha Ben,” Azriel corrected, his tone leaving no room for argument.
Alpha Ben visibly swallowed, nodding his head in deference. “Luna Storm,” he corrected himself, “about
what happened…”
But Lora raised a hand, cutting him off before he could continue. Her voice was calm, put the undercurrent of finality in it was unmistakable.
Clara out of the room, leaving behind whatever hope he had of reconnecting with his daughter.
The moment their backs were turned, the surrounding tension began to ease. Kaia, always quick to break
the ice, let out a teasing laugh. “Well, that was cold…like the North Pole in here,” she quipped, though her eyes held a deeper understanding of what had just transpired.
Lora’s expression remained unmoved as she turned to Kaia, her voice carrying the weight of old wounds and newfound strength. “They made their choice years ago, Kaia, when they threw me into a frozen river and left me to die in the wild. And I made my choice as well.”
