Royal Ball-1

Royal Ball-1

Clan

The day of the royal ball had finally arrived, and despite Lora’s experience as Luna, an undercurrent of anxiety filled her. She had faced down battles, healed infections with the Goddess’ Gift, and led

her pack with grace, but this grand event in her honor felt different, overwhelming in a way she couldn’t quite explain.

Azriel, sensing her unease, gave her hand a comforting squeeze as they prepared to leave their

pups in the capable hands of Tim and Dana. “Don’t worry, love,” he whispered softly, “You’ve faced

far worse than a room full of Alphas trying to impress you.”

Lora smiled, grateful for his presence, and nodded. Beta James and Gamma Sky joined them as

they made their way to the ball. The helicopter ride was quiet, filled with anticipation, and Lora’s

mind buzzed with thoughts of the event ahead. The knowledge that every major Alpha in the

region would be attending weighed heavily on her. She had become a symbol of hope and strength, not just to her own pack, but to many others. She wanted to live up to those expectations, but tonight she also just wanted to be Lora, Azriel’s mate, the mother of her beautiful

children.

As they arrived at the Royal palace, Lora’s nerves dissipated a bit when she saw Kaia waiting for

them at the entrance. Her sister-in-law and friend, heavily pregnant, stood radiant with a glow that

transcended her pregnancy exhaustion.

Azriel chuckled softly as he approached his sister. “Kaia, you look…,” he began, a teasing lilt in his

voice.

Kaia rolled her eyes dramatically, her hand resting on her large belly. “Ready to pop, I know.” She

sighed. “I can’t anymore, Azriel. I can’t do anything. All I do is cry or crave ice cream.”

Lora laughed warmly, stepping forward to hug her friend. “You’re glowing,” she reassured Kaia, her

hand gently rubbing her back in a soothing gesture.

Almost instantly, Kaia’s face relaxed, and her shoulders dropped as she took in a deep breath. “Oh, Goddess bless you, Lora,” she sighed, her voice laced with relief. “I can breathe again. The pain was unbearable the entire day, like a million needles in my back.”

Markus, standing nearby, watched the scene with a grateful smile. He leaned in and whispered

quietly to Lora, “Thank you. She’s been in so much pain, but never complains.”

Lora smiled softly, understanding the silent gratitude between mates, before nodding to him.

Their moment was interrupted as Tamsin, Kaia’s efficient and reliable chief of staff, approached

the group. She was carrying a clipboard, clearly ready to confirm the last-minute details of the

night’s grand event. However, as she neared them, her steps faltered, and she suddenly froze in place, her eyes wide and fixed on something, or someone.

Lora, Kaia, and the rest of the group looked at her, confused by her sudden change in demeanor, as they saw her face pale. But before anyone could ask what was wrong, a deep, possessive voice cut through the air, startling them all.

“Mate!”

The group turned toward the sound, eyes wide in surprise. The voice had come from/none other than Beta James. His usually composed and serious face had transformed, his dark eyes locked onto Tamsin with an intensity that left no room for doubt. His voice, laced with raw emotion, sent shivers down Lora’s spine.

Tamsin’s wide-eyed shock mirrored James’s. Her clipboard slipped from her fingers, clattering to the floor, but she didn’t seem to notice. Her gaze was fixed on him, as if the rest of the world had fallen away.

For a moment, silence filled the air, the weight of the mate bond palpable to everyone around them. Lora, having experienced the overwhelming connection herself with Azriel, understood exactly what was happening. She smiled softly, exchanging a knowing glance with Azriel, whose lips had quirked up into a grin.

Lora was the first to break the silence, her hands clasped over her mouth in delighted shock. James! Tamsin! You-oh, my Goddess, this is-”

James, not waiting for anyone else to speak, crossed the distance between him and Tamsin in long, determined strides. When he reached her, his hand reached out gently, as if afraid she might vanish. “You’re my mate,” he said again, but this time it was softer, almost reverent.
