Working Late-1

Markus ended the call with Azriel and Lora, letting out a deep, weary sigh. The day had been long, and he was beyond exhausted. All he wanted was to retreat to his bedroom, to the comforting embrace of his mate, Kaia. But the responsibilities of being king weighed heavily on him and there was still much to be done. Rest was a luxury he couldn’t afford, not yet.

His wolf beast, Stinger, wasn’t thrilled about the prospect of more work. Ever since Markus had found out that Kaia was pregnant, Stinger had been restless, constantly pushing him to stay close

to their mate.

“Stinger, we need to find the bloodline that can use the Dispell Poems,” Markus mentally pleaded with his beast. “Just give me a little more time, and I promise we’ll be with our mate soon.”

Stinger growled in annoyance, unimpressed with Markus’s reasoning. Instead of calming down,

Stinger began flooding Markus’s mind with heated images of their mate, erotic images that made

it impossible for Markus to focus on anything else.

Markus felt his body reacting immediately, the tightness in his trousers becoming more and more

uncomfortable by the second as his hard member started to pulsate with need.

“Stinger, stop,” Markus growled internally, but the beast only intensified the sensations, making it

even harder for Markus to concentrate.

He reached down to adjust himself, hoping to relieve some of the pressure, but the simple act only

made things worse. He swallowed a groan, feeling the hardness straining against his trousers, his

mind filled with nothing but thoughts of Kaia.

Just then, as if the situation couldn’t get any worse, his Beta, Atlas, called him on the phone.

Markus tried to focus, but his mind was a haze of desire.

“Markus, we have a situation,” Atlas said urgently. Markus could barely process the words, his

focus shattered by the fire raging within him.

As he struggled to keep his voice steady, Kaia walked into his office. The moment he saw her, his

heart skipped a beat. She was the vision of serenity, a stark contrast to the turmoil he was

experiencing. She smiled warmly at him, her eyes softening as she approached.

Markus tried to focus on what Atlas was saying, but Kaia’s presence was overwhelming. She leaned in, kissing him gently on the temple, her scent enveloping him. The simple touch made his skin tingle, and he felt his control slipping further.

Kaia paused, taking a deep breath, and her eyes sharpened with realization. She caught the scent of his arousal, and a playful smile tugged at her lips. Lifting an eyebrow in amusement, she moved

behind him, her hands coming to rest on his shoulders.

She began to massage his shoulders and the back of his neck, her touch both soothing and maddening. But instead of relaxing him, Markus’s body only grew more heated. The tension coiled within him like a spring, and Stinger roared in approval, urging him to take his mate right then and

there.

Kaia’s fingers worked expertly, kneading the knots in his muscles, but her proximity and the scent. of her were driving him insane. His heart raced, and he had to fight to keep his voice steady as he tried to respond to Atlas.

“Markus? Are you listening?” Atlas’s voice broke through the haze, sounding distant and concerned

“Yes, I’m here,” Markus replied, his voice rougher than he intended. He cleared his throat, trying to regain control, but it was a losing battle.

Kaia leaned closer, her breath warm against his ear as she whispered, “Are you sure you’re okay, my

king?”

Her words sent a shiver down his spine, and Markus knew he couldn’t hold out much longer. He could feel Stinger pushing at the edges of his control, eager to take over, to claim their mate.

“Atlas, I… I need to call you back,” Markus managed to say, his voice strained.

“What? But, Markus-“Atlas started, but Markus had already ended the call, tossing the phone onto

his desk.

He turned to face Kaia, his eyes dark with desire. “You’re not playing fair, Kaia,” he said, his voice a

low growl.
