Carter’s Trial-2

The silence that followed was deafening. No one dared to move or speak, the shock of what they had just witnessed paralyzing them. Markus, his face pale and drawn, looked around the courtyard, his eyes scanning the faces of those gathered.

He knew what this meant, what this terrifying display signaled.

He turned to Azriel and his father, his voice a barely audible whisper filled with dread. “The Lycans…

they’re here.”

Markus stood tall on the platform, the tension in the air so thick it was almost suffocating, as he issued a command that echoed through the courtyard, reaching every corner of the pack’s /

territory.

“Attention, all pack members,” he began, his voice carrying the authority of a king and the urgency of the situation. “Return to your homes immediately. As of this moment, a state of quarantine is in effect. No one is to leave their assigned areas without explicit permission. We must ensure the safety and security of our people.”

The command sent a wave of unease through the crowd, but they obeyed without question. Families hurried to gather their children, warriors moved swiftly to secure the perimeter, and the once-crowded courtyard began to empty as everyone followed Markus’s orders.

With the pack members dispersing, Markus turned his attention to the Council members and officials who remained. His gaze was hard, his demeanor all business. “It seems the Lycans have decided to take matters into their own hands,” he said, his voice low but resonant. “They’ve punished Alpha Carter for his betrayal in their own twisted way. We need to wrap things up here and begin an immediate investigation into how this breach occurred and how far it goes.”

As he spoke, his eyes landed on Alice Carter, who was still in the front row, her face streaked with tears, her body trembling with shock and anger. Markus cleared his throat, addressing her directly. “For the moment, in the absence of a legal heir, the Beta of the pack will take over Alpha Carter’s role as interim leader until a suitable Alpha can be selected.”

Alice’s reaction was immediate and venomous. She stopped crying, her expression twisting into one of fury and disbelief. “What do you mean, no heir?” she spat, her voice shaking with outrage. “I am the heir of the pack! The pack is mine by birth right!”

Markus closed his eyes for a brief moment, rubbing his forehead with his fingers as if trying to ward off a headache. He was tired, and dealing with Alice’s tantrums was the last thing he needed. But he opened his eyes, his expression firm, his patience worn thin.

“Alice,” he began, his tone exasperated but controlled, “following your father’s confession and the evidence we’ve gathered, it’s clear that you are the last person fit to lead a pack. Your father’s actions, fueled by desperation to cover for your reckless behavior, have cost him his life and nearly brought ruin to all of us. You’ve abused your power, indulged in dangerous addictions, and shown no sense of responsibility. Leadership is about more than just birthright. It’s about the ability to protect and guide your people, qualities you’ve proven you lack.”

Alice’s face contorted with rage, and she screamed at him, “You can’t do this to me!”

But Markus had had enough. His patience snapped, and he released a powerful surge of his Alpha aura, his voice booming with authority. “Your father had to die because of your foolishness, and you still haven’t learned your lesson, you ungrateful creature! You’ve brought nothing but shame to your family and your pack. You have no place as a leader. I hereby demote you to omega status within the pack. If you do not mend your ways and I hear any more unfavorable reports about you you will be banished as a next step!”

The weight of his words hung in the air, and the force of his Alpha command crushed Alice’s resistance. She fell silent, her defiance snuffed out like a candle in the wind. The present crowd watched in stunned silence, the gravity of the situation sinking in.

Alice’s eyes filled with tears of fury and humiliation, but she didn’t dare speak again. Markus’s command had left no room for argument, no space for rebellion. Her shoulders sagged as the reality of her new status set in, an omega, the lowest rank in the pack, stripped of all her privileges and power.

“Take her out of my sight,” Markus ordered, his voice cold and final.

Two guards stepped forward, gently but firmly taking hold of Alice’s arms. She didn’t struggle as they led her away, her head hanging low, her once fiery spirit broken.

As Alice was escorted out of the courtyard, Markus watched her go with a heavy heart. The situation was far from over, there were still Lycans to deal with, a pack to protect, and the looming threat of war. But for now, justice had been served, and a message had been sent. Plus, one traitor less that could do damage to their kind.

Turning back to the Council members and officials who remained, Markus’s expression hardened once more. “We have work to do. The Lycans are here, and they’ve made their move. We need to be ready for whatever comes next. Let’s try to find out how they could kill Alpha Carter and what are actually their plans and locations.”
