Tim pulled back, his eyes wide and filled with a mix of satisfaction and regret. He wanted to mark
her, but not like this, without her permission.
“Dana, I…” he started, but the words died on his lips seing her shocked and horrified expression The reality of what he’d done, the irrevocable bond he’d created, settled over him.
Dana pushed him away, tears streaming down her face. “How could you?” she cried, her voice
breaking.
Tim’s heart ached at her words, the weight of his actions crashing down on him. “Dana, please,” he begged, reaching out to her. “I didn’t mean to… I lost control.”
Dana looked horrified at Tim, her eyes wide with shock and betrayal. She pushed him away with al her strength, tears streaming down her cheeks. “What have you done, Tim?!” she screamed, her voice trembling with emotion, her composed mask crumbling under the gravity of what just
happened.
Tim’s heart sank. He reached out to her, his face etched with regret. “Dana, I’m sorry. I should have cleared it with you first. I lost control, and I… I did want it to happen, but not like this. Not without
your consent.”
Dana’s sobs intensified, her body shaking with the force of her grief. Tim felt a wave of disappointment wash over him. What would have been the happiest moment in the life of a shifter was now a fiasco. He had thought that after their passionate encounter, she would see things differently, that she would understand the bond they shared, that she would finally accept him as
her mate. But it seemed he was wrong.
“Dana, please,” he began, but she cut him off with a fierce glare.
“You have no idea what you’ve done, Tim,” she said, her voice breaking. “You’ve bound us together in a way that can’t be undone.”
Tim’s frustration boiled over. “I thought… I thought you would change your mind after what we shared. I thought you felt the same connection, the same bond. I know you did, so why do you despise me that much?! Why do you keep rejecting me, rejecting us?”
Dana shook her head, her tears falling faster. “You don’t understand, Tim. This isn’t about feelings or connection. This is about survival. This is about protecting you,” she shouted in a desperate
voice.
“Protecting me?” Tim echoed, his confusion growing. “From what, Dana? Stop finding excuses! Why do you resent me so much? Why do you despise the bond and me?”

“I don’t despise you,” Dana shouted back, her voice filled with desperation. “I never have, on the contrary! But I can’t… We can’t be together. It’s for your own good.”
Tim’s anger flared. “For my own good? How can rejecting our bond be for my own good? Your actions prove otherwise, Dana. You’re pushing me away, and I don’t understand why. Talk to me
damn it!”
Dana’s eyes blazed with a mix of anger and sorrow. “You don’t get it, Tim. By marking me, you’ve just signed your own death sentence.”
Tim stared at her, utterly baffled. “What are you talking about? How is marking you a death sentence for me? I don’t understand anything!”
Dana’s breath hitched as she tried to compose herself. “Because,” she began, her voice trembling “… because I already belong to someone else!” she shouted back, words which froze Tim in place
