Two days later, Azriel and Lora sat inside the Alpha’s office, preparing for a video conference with Markus. As the connection established, Markus’s face appeared on the screen, his expression serious.

“Good to see you both,” Markus began. “I have an updated list of packs and covens that are infected. You’ve done a tremendous job so far, but there’s still a lot of work ahead.”

Azriel and Lora nodded, bracing themselves for the news. Markus continued, “Your reputation has spread across the supernatural world. You’re seen as heroes, a beacon of hope for everyone.”

Azriel noticed Markus hesitating, sensing something more. “What’s going on, Markus?” he asked directly.

Markus took a long pause before replying, “If you check the updated list of packs infected, you’ll

notice that one of the packs with the highest infection rate is the Black Forest Pack… Lora’s former

pack.”

For a moment, there was silence. The weight of the revelation hung heavy in the air. Markus

continued, his voice cautious, “I understand the conflicting feelings you might have, Lora,

considering the way you were treated by everyone there. No one is imposing any decision on you.”

Lora’s eyes filled with tears, her emotions raw. “Your words aren’t helping,” she snapped at Markus, her voice trembling with anger and pain.

Markus shook his head, powerless. “It’s your decision how you want to proceed, Lora.”

Lora’s agitation was palpable. “You place me in an impossible spot. If I ignore them, many lives will

end if I could have done something. This will haunt my conscience forever. But if I help them, I’m

aiding the same people who condemned me to death, who contributed to my wolf’s death. How

can I choose?”

Azriel wrapped his arms around her, offering silent support as she thanked Markus. Markus’s face

softened, understanding the turmoil she was in. “Follow your heart, Lora. Just remember, whatever

you decide, we’re here to support you. You have my full backing in whatever you want to do.”

After several other exchanges, before closing the call, Markus added, “One more thing. Increase your travel security. With your growing reputation, the dark lycans are likely aware of your efforts and may attempt to stop you. Azriel, let me know if you want to add a few of my Praetorian Guards to your convoy.”

Azriel nodded, “We are good for now, Markus. But the help is much appreciated. I will let you know

if anything changes!”

“Your call, stay safe!” Markus replied before closing the call.

The screen went dark, and the room fell silent once more. Lora wiped her tears, taking a deep

breath. “What should I do, Azriel? I don’t know if I can face them.”

Azriel held her tighter, his voice gentle. “You don’t have to decide right now. We’ll take it one step at

a time. No matter what you choose, we’ll face it together. Let’s focus on the rest of the list, and I am sure that at the end of the day the Goddess will guide your steps.”

Lora nodded, leaning into his embrace. “Thank you,” she whispered. “I just need some time to

think.”

Azriel kissed the top of her head. “Take all the time you need. We’re in this together.”

The next day, the group prepared to continue their mission. As they packed their belongings, there was a somber air around them, each member deep in thought about the challenges ahead. The four vampire warriors stood ready, their presence a reminder of the unity and strength within their

group.

As they boarded the convoy, heading towards their next destination, Lora couldn’t help but think about the decision she had to make.

After another heartbreaking farewell, the convoy left the last pack behind. The emotional weight of each departure hung heavy in the air, but their mission compelled them forward. By evening, they arrived at their next destination. After healing the infected and enduring another celebratory feast, the next day they find them back on the road.

Lora rested her head on Azriel’s shoulder, her exhaustion palpable as this time the infected number was much higher as she finished the healing around 2am, and she pushed herself as much as she could. She was on the verge of sleep when the SUV came to a sudden halt, jerking everyone awake. Immediately, they heard growls and the unmistakable sound of weapons.
