She took a deep breath, her eyes filled with a sadness that mirrored his own. “We do our duty. We focus on the mission. And maybe, just maybe, when this is all over, we can discuss about this bond. But now is not the right moment or place.”
Tim nodded slowly, his heart heavy and his chest in pain, “Alright,” he said, his voice steady. “But
know this, I won’t give up on us. I can’t.”
She gave him a small, sad smile. “OK, your choice,” she said softly.
With that, she turned and walked away, leaving Tim standing there, his chest hurting in pain and
anguish.
After a few hours, Tim received a mind link from Azriel. “Tim, we’ve succeeded in healing the remaining vampires. Lora and I are resting now, we’re too exhausted. Dinner will be in two hours, and we can all meet downstairs. Please inform the other pack members that are with us.”
Tim confirmed the message and spent the next two hours trying to calm his restless thoughts. The images and the words of his mate, Dana, were burning his chest. When the time came, he joined the others at the dinner table. Despite the grim circumstances that had brought them together, the atmosphere was surprisingly relaxed. Everyone was relieved that their coven members, including Princess Mara, were healed.
Layzal had a big smile on his face as he kept his beloved mate, Princess Mara, close by his side.
Princess Mara addressed the group, “You will always have an ally in me. I deeply appreciate your selflessness and sacrifice. Any other race would have healed its own first.”
Azriel responded, “We are all in this together. We’ll alternate between healing packs and healing covens to ensure similar treatments.”
During dinner, Tim couldn’t help but sneak glances at his mate. Her unyielding expression was driving him crazy. She remained composed, her face a mask of indifference, which only added to Tim’s frustration.
Layzal noticed the interaction and raised an eyebrow. “What is happening? Is it any issue with my warrior?” he asked, a hint of amusement in his voice
Azriel replied in a polite tone, “It seems my Delta Tim has found his mate among your warriors.”
Layzal’s amusement grew. “Hmm… very interesting,” he said, his eyes twinkling with curiosity. Tim felt a mixture of embarrassment and hope. Maybe Layzal’s interest would encourage his mate to open up. He glanced at her again, hoping for any sign of acknowledgment. She remained stoic,

Layzal turned to the warrior, his expression thoughtful. “Warrior Dana,” he called, and the warrior lifted her head, her eyes meeting Layzal’s.
“Yes, Your Highness?” she replied, her voice steady and respectfull.
“Is it true? Have you found your mate?” Layzal asked gently.
Dana nodded, her eyes flicking briefly to Tim before returning to Layzal. “Yes, it appears so,” she
said calmly.
Layzal looked between Amara and Tim, a thoughtful expression on his face. “Dana, why the indifference? The mate bond is a rare and precious gift.”
Dana’s expression softened slightly, and she sighed. “It’s not indifference, Your Highness. It’s caution. We are in a fragile situation, and I cannot afford to let my emotions compromise our
mission. Duty comes first.”
Layzal nodded in understanding. “I see. But remember, the bond is powerful and can bring strength, not just distraction.”
Dana nodded, her eyes meeting Tim’s for a moment longer this time. “I understand, Your Highness”
she said quietly.
Tim’s heart skipped a beat at the brief connection. He felt a glimmer of hope. Maybe, just maybe,
things will change.
By the end of the meal, the atmosphere was lighter. Layzal stood and raised a glass. “To our new alliance, and to the health and strength of our people,” he said.
Everyone raised their glasses in agreement, with hope.
After dinner, once everyone withdrew to their rooms, Tim followed his senses and found himself standing in front of Dana’s room, his mate. His heart pounded with a mix of anticipation and anxiety as he raised his hand to knock on the door.
When the door opened, he looked hopeful and began, “Hello, I wanted to-” But before he could finish, a sharp snap echoed through the hallway as Dana slapped him across the face with surprising power. He froze, disbelief washing over him as he met her seething gaze.
“Never put me in that position again in front of my leaders,” she hissed in anger. “I am a top warrior, and I can’t show weakness. Do you have any idea how much I worked to reach where I am? In my position? I don’t need a lovesick puppy to ruin this for me.”
Tim’s jaw clenched as he tried to contain his temper. “I don’t see how this is affecting you,” he

replied between gritted teeth, his voice low and controlled.
Dana let out a harsh, humorless laugh. “Of course you don’t see it. You think only with your lower
parts of your body.”
She stepped closer, her eyes blazing with anger. “The other vampires are barely waiting to take my place, and they will use this connection to prove that I am not suitable for the role. How can a vampire warrior be dedicated 100% to the coven when she has a werewolf as a mate?
Tim took a deep breath, struggling to remain calm. “Dana, I understand your concerns, but the mate bond is sacred. We can find a way to make this work without jeopardizing your position.”
Dana’s eyes narrowed, her anger unabated. “Good night, Delta Tim,” she snapped back before shutting the door in his face.
