The early morning light filtered through the large windows of the Pack House, casting a warm glow on the wooden floors. Markus and Azriel greeted each other with a firm handshake and a nod, the weight of their responsibilities evident in their eyes. They sat down at the large pak desk of Alpha’s office, ready to discuss the next steps in their strategy.

Azriel leaned forward, his expression serious. “So, what’s the plan, Markus?”

Markus took a deep breath before speaking. “The next step would be to return to the Royal Pack

and organize from there. It’s strategically advantageous for coordinating with the Council and

handling political matters. Someone needs to keep in check those sly weasels of councilmen. Last

night, I received an updated report on the infected. The situation is more dire than we initially

estimated. Over ten packs are now infected, and the vampires have reported thirteen covens

infected as well.”

Azriel’s eyes widened. “That’s worse than we thought.”

Markus nodded and unrolled a large map on the table, pointing out the various infected areas.

“We’ve managed to limit the spread somewhat by imposing quarantines and curfews, but it’s still not looking good. Look at the distribution of infections.”

Azriel scrutinized the map, his brow furrowing. “This doesn’t make any sense. There’s no

geographic pattern.”

“Exactly,” Markus agreed. “This means the contagion is being spread manually. It’s a setup, not a natural spread. I’ve issued a royal decree for every pack to close its borders and allow no visitors. But now, it’s up to Lora and you to decide how you want to approach the healing process.”

Azriel nodded thoughtfully. “I discussed this with Lora last night and our strategy would be to start with the packs and covens that have the lowest number of infections. Contain the spread

geographically.”

Markus leaned back in his chair, considering. “That makes sense. But how do you want to

approach the vampires?”

Azriel hesitated for a moment before replying. “Lora and I discussed this. Her decision is to alternate between healing a pack and a coven. Pack first, then coven, and so on.”

Markus raised an eyebrow. “That’s a noble approach. The instinct would be to prioritize our own

kind.”

Azriel smiled faintly. “Lora sees the vampires as allies now. She wants to start with the vampire princess to confirm if her abilities will work on their kind or not.”

Markus nodded approvingly. “That’s a sound strategy. I’ll inform Layzal and communicate our plan to ensure we have full passage in vampire territory.”

Azriel leaned back, his expression thoughtful. “We need to ensure that our alliance with the vampires remains strong. This cooperation is crucial.”

Markus agreed. “Absolutely. Layzal needs to understand that this is a coordinated effort. We can’t afford any missteps. Also, I am planning to discuss the Dark Lycans with my father. For the moment, we will keep it a secret between you and Lora, Layzal and my father. I will not share it even with the Council, at least for the moment.”

Azriel looked at the map again, his eyes narrowing. “Do you think the Dark Lycans are really behind

this?”

Markus sighed heavily. “Given the nature of the contagion and the history we have with them, it seems likely. Layzal mentioned that his spies have an inklink that the danger is coming from the Canadian side. If the Dark Lycans are involved, they have a motive for revenge against both

werewolves and vampires.”

Azriel clenched his fists. “Those bastards were eradicated for a reason. If they’re back, we have to

be prepared for anything.”

Markus nodded. “I’ve already put all the packs on high alert. No one gets in or out without strict scrutiny. But this is going to require more than just defense. We need to go on the offensive.”

Azriel’s eyes gleamed with determination. “Agreed. We need to root them out and destroy them

once and for all.”

Just then, Kaia entered the room, looking concerned but determined. “Is everything alright?” she asked, her eyes shifting between Markus and Azriel.

Markus smiled at her reassuringly. “We’re just discussing our next steps. How did you sleep?”

Kaia shrugged. “Not much, but I’m ready to help in any way I can.”
