Lora sat on the edge of her bed, her hands trembling with the pregnancy tests still in her grasp. She never expected to become pregnant again so soon. Her mind swirled with emotions as she tried to process the news.

Looking up at Kaia, she asked, “How did you know I was pregnant?”

Kaia smiled gently with a secret glint in her eyes. “Let’s say that it was a hunch, Lora. had a feeling, and I wanted to make sure.”

Mary screamed in happiness, “I am so happy for both of you! I’ll bring you some homemade tonics and remedies to help you recover your strength, Lora. Just give me a little time.”

Before leaving, Lora grabbed Mary’s hand. “Thank you, Mary. Please, don’t tell anyone until I’ve had a chance to talk to Azriel. I need to let him know first.”

Mary nodded with a reassuring smile. “Of course, my dear. Your secret is safe with me. Take care of yourself.”

Once Mary had left, Lora turned to Kaia, who looked conflicted. “What’s going on, Kaia? You seem

troubled.”

Kaia took a deep breath. “Lora, there’s something you need to know and actually this is the reason I came here in the first place. Last night there was a serious development affecting the packs. The vampires are testing our pack borders, which is unprecedented, and the black magic outbreak resurfaced and has spread to multiple packs. There have been numerous casualties, and the situation is grim.”

Lora’s eyes widened in shock and anger. “Why didn’t Azriel tell me any of this?”

Kaia sighed. “He noticed you weren’t feeling well and made your well-being his priority. Considering what happened to his first mate, he would never risk your health, especially now that you’re pregnant. He loves you, Lora. He’s trying to protect you.”

Lora nodded slowly, absorbing the information. “Thank you for being so forthcoming, Kaia. It

means a lot to me.”

Kaia squeezed her hand. “I am totally on his side, you are our main priority; you are our family. But, you are your own person as well and have the right to make decisions about your life and your health. No one should take that power from you. Not my brother or even the King himself.”

Lora hugged her tightly. “Thank you so much, Kaia! You are family as well. Never forget this. I am always here for you. I’ll mind link Azriel and let him know the news. Whatever decision I make, I

Kaia smiled warmly. “Whatever you decide, you don’t owe anyone an explanation. Just take care of yourself and the baby. Sometimes it is good to be a bit selfish.”

Lora nodded and watched as Kaia left the room. Taking a deep breath, she mind linked Azriel. “Azriel, can you come to our home? I need to talk to you. It’s really important.”

His response was immediate. “Hi, my dove. How are you feeling? I’ll be there in ten minutes.”

Lora sat in silence, her mind racing. She placed a hand on her abdomen, trying to connect with the life growing inside her, but she still could not feel anything.

She closed her eyes and looked inside her, calling forward Tara, her precious wolf. When Tara

emerged, Lora felt her presence strongly, a comforting and steadying force.

“Tara,” Lora whispered, “did you know?”

“Yes,” Tara replied softly.

“Why didn’t you tell me?” Lora asked, conflicted. “I had a right to know.”

Tara’s voice was gentle yet firm. “It was too early, Lora. I was protecting you and the pups from any

indirect harm. The first weeks of pregnancy are the most risky. I didn’t wanted you to feel

disappointed if something wrong happened.”

Lora’s eyes widened in shock. “Pups? What do you mean, ‘pups’?”

With pride in her voice, Tara announced, “We’re having twins.”

Lora’s hand flew to her mouth as she processed the news. She felt a mixture of awe and

trepidation. It was in this state that Azriel found her, a look of amazement on her face.

He rushed to her side, concern etched in every line of his face. “Lora, what’s wrong? Are you okay?”
