Before she could reach the door, a strong arm grabbed her from behind. She gasped, trying to twist away, but Markus held her firm. The next moment, she felt a sharp, piercing pain in her neck. Her vision blurred, and the world around her started to fade. The last thing she saw before losing consciousness was Markus’s anguished face, his eyes filled with regret and desperation.
After some time, Kaia awoke groggily, her head pounding and her neck sore where Markus had bitten her. She was lying in a comfortable bed, and as her vision cleared, she realized she was in Markus’ guest room from the pack house. Panic surged through her, and she tried to sit up, only to
find Markus sitting by her side, his face a mask of concern and regret.
“Kaia,” he began softly, his voice filled with a mix of sorrow and determination. “I’m sorry. I didn’t
want to do this, but you left me no choice. I can’t let you leave. You have to understand, your safety
means everything to me.”
Her anger resurfaced, but it was tempered by the exhaustion and the lingering effects of whatever
he had done to her. “You… bit me. You marked me,” she said, her voice weak but accusatory, as
tears appeared in her eyes. She always wanted to wear on her neck proudly a mark, but she never imagined that she would receive it like this. The tears started to flow as her heart squeezed in pain
and disappointment.
“I had to,” he replied, his tone pained. “You were going to leave, and I couldn’t let that happen. Not when things are this dangerous. I need you, baby doll. I warned you that I am a selfish man and that once I set my mind, I will not change.”
New tears filled her eyes again, a mix of anger, frustration, and a lingering sense of betrayal. “You can’t just make decisions for me, Markus. I’m not a child, and I’m not weak. I can help, and I can be there for you. But you just marked me, just like this? How could you?”
He sighed, running a hand through his hair. “I am sorry, Kaia, in my rage this was the only way I could make you understand what you mean to me. But this crisis is bigger than just us. This is about the safety of our people, our packs. I need to focus, and I can’t do that if I’m constantly worrying about you being in harm’s way. Please try to understand me, please.”
She looked away, her heart heavy with conflicting emotions. “So, what now? You keep me locked away here while you go out and fight? Is that your grand plan?”
As she turned to him, he took her hand and kissed it gently, his eyes filled with a sad, remorseful
look.
“I know this was supposed to be a special moment,” he said softly. “I will make it up
promise.”

“What now?” Kaia replied, her voice tinged with sadness. “You already took my choice from me.
Markus unbuttoned his shirt and pulled it aside, exposing his neck. He looked into her eyes with
determination. “Now it’s your turn.”
Kaia was surprised by his gesture. She felt Sierra, her wolf, stirring just below the surface. “Let’s do it,” Sierra urged. “Him and Stinger are ours.”
“But he didn’t ask permission when he marked us, he just did it,” Kaia protested silently.
Sierra groaned in frustration. “When you were playing in bed earlier, you were ready to be marked, so
don’t be a hypocrite.”
“That was different,” Kaia shot back.
“I know you’re disappointed by how it happened, I am a little as well,” Sierra acknowledged. “But the main question is: do you want his mark or not?”
“Of course, you know we want him,” Kaia admitted.
“Then let me take control and mark him,” Sierra urged. “Later, we can give them hell.”
Markus’s heart nearly stopped when he saw Kaia hesitate, disappointment flashing across his face. He was mentally berating himself for being so reckless when, suddenly, she grabbed his neck and sank her fangs into his flesh.
The world spun around Markus as he felt the sharp, yet exhilarating pain of her bite. He held her tightly, and when she released him, he felt the bond snap into place, tying them together for their entire lives. The empty gap in his chest was finally filled, and a sense of completeness washed
over him.
Kaia looked into his eyes, and to his surprise, she suddenly kissed him hard on the lips. Markus fully surrendered to the kiss, but before he could take the lead, she broke away and put some distance between them. She reached the door, turning to him with a commanding presence.
“I will be ready in 10 minutes with my travel bag,” she declared in a dominating voice. “And you better still be on this pack territory unless you want me to hunt you down and show you how a
scorned mate can act.”
With that, she left the room, leaving Markus bewildered and shocked. As he stood there, processing what had just happened, he heard Stinger’s voice in his mind.
“What just happened?” Markus asked, still reeling from the turn of events, in shock and confusion.
“I believe we have a queen,” Stinger replied with a snicker.
