Chapter 243 The leam Splits Up
Chapter 243 The Team Splits Up
“That could work.” Autumn thought it over. “You do need some real-world experience Pick a few capable fighters to come with us. We don’t know how many people Matthew is bringing, and we can’t let them outnumber ds”
“Alright,” Leonel agreed immediately.
Meanwhile.
Someone asked Matthew, “Are you seriously going to share this with Aurora Base? We’re the ones who found it.”
Matthew lounged in his seat, idly twirling one of the carefully styled curls hanging over his forehead. “Techinically, I found it. That means I get to decide who knows about it and who gets to come.”
“Mr. York, that’s not how this works. We’re all in this together,” the man said. “Now that the Gounds are gone, the central shelter belongs to all our families.”
“So what?” Matthew tilted his head and looked at him. “If you don’t like how we do things, you can stop buying food and vegetables from the Yorks. Aurora Base sells food too, but they only accept gold.”
“You-”
“Alright, that’s enough from both of you.” Oliver stepped in to smooth things over, as usual. “Mr. York has his reasons. The central shelter may still have a large population, but the truth is, we’re already running on fumes. With the water level rising, we’ll have to relocate sooner or later. One more friend is far better than one more enemy. Besides, Aurora Base is powerful now. They’re no weaker than the central shelter. We should build a good relationship with them while we can. And if we don’t excavate the tomb, it’ll eventually sink beneath the water anyway. Better to let an ally benefit than let everything go to waste.”
“At least someone here understands.” Matthew gave a mocking laugh. “The people at Aurora Base are all highly capable. They may only have a little over 800 thousand people, but even their ordinary residents eat and live far better than ours.”
“Hmph.” The man who had argued with Matthew fell silent.
Oliver spoke again. “Thank you for arranging everything and helping us buy so many aircraft and supplies from Aurora Base.”
“As long as you appreciate it.” Matthew rose with a faint smile. “Alright, enjoy your coffee. I have preparations to make.”
With that, he sashayed away.
The man who had challenged Matthew finally lost his patience. “Oliver, you’re laying it on pretty thick with that pretty boy. Don’t tell me you’re interested in him too.”
Oliver’s face darkened. “Watch your mouth, Keith. Don’t think the fall of the Gounds means your family gets to move up. The central shelter is still controlled by the Carters, the Blakes, and the Yorks.”
Keith Fleming’s expression changed as well. “Don’t think having the Carter name means you speak for the entire family. The Carters will eventually belong to the eldest heir. That doesn’t have much to do with you, does it?”
“No matter who inherits the Carters, it certainly won’t fall into your family’s hands,” Oliver shot back. “What happens within the Carters is none of your concern.”
Just as the tension between them reached its peak, Matthew, who had already left, suddenly returned and said with a smile, “You’re overthinking it. I already have someone I like.”

The Statement left both Oliver and Keith stunned.
Two days later.
Autumn and Leonel arrived to meet Matthew, accompanied by Killian and three bodyguards.
Sure enough.
Matthew’s group was just as over-the-top as they’d imagined
Matthew had brought a large crowd, and another man leading a separate group had come as well.
“Asher!” Matthew lit up the moment he saw Autumn and rushed eagerly toward her, clearly desperate to tell her how much he had missed her.
A blade pressed mercilessly against his chest, stopping him before he could reach Autumn.
“What do you think you’re doing? How dare you treat Mr. York that way?” someone behind him shouted.
Before Autumn could respond, Matthew snapped first. “What are you yelling about? This is between Asher and me. Who asked you to interfere? Asher can point a sword at me all he wants. I’d even be happy if he cut me twice.”
“Mr. York, is he the one you like?” A young man looked Autumn up and down without restraint. “He’s so skinny. Can he even handle you? He doesn’t look like much.”
“Who is he?” Autumn asked with a frown. “I thought it was only going to be our two groups.”
‘His name is Keith Fleming. His family used to rob tombs,” Matthew replied in a soft, delicate voice, gazing at Autumn with enough enderness to drown someone.
Suppressing the urge to cut him down, Autumn frowned. “There are too many people. We’re not going.”
More people meant more problems and more chances for something to go wrong.
She liked gold, but only if she could get it without unnecessary trouble.
f the expedition was filled with useless dead weight who would only slow her down, she would rather not go at all.
