Chapter 242 Back to the Island

Aurora Base had already stripped its small gold mine clean. If they wanted more gold gow, they would have to trade for it.

They had already taken a sizable amount from the central shelter last time.

But compared to the central shelter’s vast wealth, it was barely a drop in the bucket.

Especially after the outbreak of mutant animals and plants killed half the shelter’s population. Many of the dead had left behind estates, and plenty of those estates included gold.

They wouldn’t rest until they got their hands on it.

“Should we do it again?” Beckett thought for a moment, then said, “We’ve already done it once. The second time should be easier. Let’s go.”

Three days later, Beckett gathered the same team and quietly took Autumn back to the island.

This time, they didn’t arrive with guns blazing. They slipped in without making a sound, and Autumn went ashore alone in a small boat:

They had already studied the sharks’ routine.

Every night at midnight, all the sharks returned to the depths to hunt and feed.

They were almost never on the island during that time.

That gave Autumn two hours to strip the island clean.

She didn’t plant any mines this time. She was only there to raid the nest.

The sharks had laid plenty of eggs over the past few days, but instead of the three-foot-thick layer from last time, there was now only a thin covering.

It was kind of tragic, really.

Still, fewer eggs had one advantage. They were much faster to collect.

Autumn sprinted across the island, leaving no egg behind as everything vanished into the warehouse inside her storage space.

After finishing the job, she even had enough energy left to smooth out the paths across the island, making things easier for her next raid.

Autumn slipped back aboard without making a sound, then waited for the well-fed sharks to return and crawl ashore to lay their

eggs.

The mother sharks stared at the empty island and let out silent roars.

Translated into human language, they were probably cursing up a storm.

Autumn watched the sharks lose their minds through her binoculars and burst out laughing.

Raiding their nest was becoming addictive.

Chapter 242 Back to the Island

She was starting to want to come back every few days and do it all over again.

Over the following weeks, Autumn and Beckett returned every couple of weeks.

They used a different strategy each time,

Sometimes they created a diversion and struck somewhere else. Sometimes they slipped in right under the sharks’ noses. Sometimes they attacked one area to lure the sharks away from another.

Human ingenuity was endless, and Beckett was constantly changing his tactics.

A month later, when Autumn and Beckett returned for another raid, they found the entire island deserted, without a single shark in

sight.

“What’s going on?” Autumn asked in confusion.

“They were probably so terrified of having their nest raided that they moved somewhere else,” Beckett replied.

“Doesn’t that mean we won’t have any more shark eggs to steal?” Autumn asked sincerely.

“Don’t push your luck.” Beckett helplessly ruffled Autumn’s hair. “You’re probably the only person alive who could eat a pack of sharks out of house and home.”

“Hahaha. We can’t make this trip for nothing, can we? Fuel’s expensive,” Autumn said. “We’re already here, so let’s cast some nets

and take whatever we catch.”

“Fine.”

This was probably their least profitable trip yet.

By the time they returned, they had only a thin layer of fish in the hold. The trip had been a complete loss.

But as soon as Autumn got back, she received news that left her conflicted.

Matthew from the central shelter had sent her another letter.

He wrote that they had discovered an ancient tomb buried beneath the sand. According to their scans, it might contain a large amount of gold and other valuables. He wanted Autumn to join the excavation and offered her half the gold they recovered.

Autumn looked at the gold in her storage space, more than half of which had already been consumed, and felt tempted.

Should I go take a look?

Autumn didn’t know much about excavating tombs.

But that wasn’t a problem. Leonel had plenty of capable people, so she planned to borrow an expert.

“What? You want to go dig up a tomb with them?” Leonel could hardly believe his ears. “Are you crazy? After the earthquake, every tomb out there should’ve collapsed already. Going in there now is practically suicide.”

“That’s true,” Autumn said. “But Matthew claims there may be around 3,000 tons of pure gold inside, along with gold objects like ingots and vessels. I was thinking that relocating in the future will cost us a fortune, and my storage space needs more gold to produce enough food. That’s why I want to take a look.
