Chapter 230 Unusual Orientation
Chapter 230 Unusual Orientation
“Get ready,” Leonel said. “The second Matthew sees you, he’ll know everything.”
“What if… I hide?” Autumn asked miserably
“You can hide for now, but you can’t hide forever. Sooner or later, you’ll have to face him,” Leonel said.

“Then what am I supposed to do?” Autumn groaned. “Doesn’t that mean everything we pulled in the central shelter is going to be exposed?”
“So this one’s on you. Right now, Matthew’s the only one who can piece together the truth. We spent most of our time in disguise, but he saw your real face.” Leonel wore a strange expression, like he was trying hard not to laugh. “Matthew’s always been into guys, but who knows? Maybe you’ll be the one to change his mind.”
Autumn looked even more miserable. “I can’t do that! You expect me to use my looks? The problem is, I don’t have any!”
Leonel looked at Autumn with sympathy. “I’ve delivered the message. What you do next is up to you.”
With that, Leonel grabbed an apple and walked away.
Autumn was left behind, looking all desperate as she tugged at her hair.
“Aaaah!”
“What am I supposed to do?!”
While Autumn was debating whether she should run away, Matthew was at home counting supplies, getting everything ready to leave for Aurora Base in Karthmoor as soon as the sandstorm ended.
“Matthew, are you really going to Aurora Base?” his father asked, concern written all over his face. “Isn’t it better to stay home where it’s safe and comfortable? Why put yourself through all the trouble?”
Matthew thought of the blurry photo he’d stumbled across in a refugee’s hands, and the corners of his mouth lifted into a faint smile. “Dad, I’m not a kid anymore. I can’t spend the rest of my life living like some spoiled rich kid. Besides, don’t you want me to help take some of the weight off your shoulders? Right now, the central shelter is run by our three families. The heirs from the other two are too busy fighting for power. If I don’t start pulling my weight, the Yorks are going to fall behind.”
Matthew’s father couldn’t have been happier.
His son had finally grown up.
Sure, his son’s taste in partners was a little unusual, but so what? It wasn’t like he couldn’t support him.
Whoever his son wanted, no matter how powerful or impressive they were, he’d find a way to bring them back to keep his son company.
“I’ll assign my best bodyguards to you,” Matthew’s father said earnestly. “It doesn’t matter if the supplies are lost, but you have to come home safe. Be extra careful while you’re away. Never put yourself in danger.”
“Don’t worry, Dad. I’m going there to do business, not start a fight.” Matthew’s smile carried a hidden meaning. “Aurora Base is becoming more and more impressive.”

But if Aurora Base really belonged to that person… Then he could understand why.
Someone as capable as that running a whole base-seemed perfectly natural.
Matthew pulled up the photo on his phone.
Even though phones no longer worked after the apocalypse, the camera and photo gallery still did.
The picture had been taken by a refugee who happened to point the camera at Autumn. It captured the exact moment when the refugees surrounded Scott, and Autumn made her commanding entrance before shooting the ringleader of the riot.
Even though it had been taken from far away and the picture quality was terrible, making everything blurry….
Matthew recognized that overbearing attitude and unmatched presence at a single glance.
He asked the owner of the phone who the person in the picture was.
The man told Matthew that the person’s name was Asher, the fourth-ranking leader of Aurora Base, standing on equal footing with Leonel, Beckett, and Scott.
Matthew smiled at once.
So your name is Asher.
And you even lied to me, saying your name was Amos… or Aurum.
But that’s okay. No matter what name you use, I still like you.
Asher, let’s see how you’re going to avoid me this time.
Matthew carefully put the photo away. He didn’t tell anyone that Autumn was the one who had thrown the central shelter into chaos or that she was the one who had killed Gordon.
After all, Gordon was already dead. Whether anyone knew or not, there was no one left to avenge him.
He’d rather use that secret to pressure Autumn into stopping her from avoiding him.
Outside, the sandstorm still raged. Everyone stayed hidden inside the caves, not daring to step outside.
A few people refused to believe it was that dangerous and decided to give it a try.
The moment they stepped outside, the wind swept them away without a trace. After that, no one else was stubborn enough to test their luck.
To keep everyone busy, Scott created all kinds of jobs. Some people twisted rope by hand or folded paper boxes, while others sharpened kitchen knives and scissors. Some patched clothes, swept floors, mopped, hauled away trash, or kept the boilers burning. They were simple tasks that required no special skills-just a pair of working hands.
On top of that, Autumn kept supplying Aurora Base with a steady stream of resources, so no one had to worry about food or daily necessities. Life and work stayed stable, and nobody caused trouble.
Mostly because nobody dared to.
