Chapter 223 Wipe Them Out
“Fall back!” Autumn looked back at the wrecked shipyard one last time. Then she led everyone along their planned escape route. Using ropes and climbing gear, they made their way back to the boat.
Beckett handed each of them a bottle of energy drink to help them recover.
“Good job, everyone.”
Autumn chugged the whole bottle in one go, tossed the empty bottle back into her storage space, and said, “Beckett, I’ve been thinking. We can’t just leave. Once those bugs hatch and swarm out of that nest, our base will be the first place they hit. With more than 800,000 people, we’ll definitely attract them.”
“What do you have in mind?” Beckett asked calmly.
Autumn wiped the water from the corner of her mouth and flashed a fierce grin. “Wipe them out.”
She turned to Beckett and asked, “Can anyone tell what kind of animal these things are?”
He shook his head.
One of the young men nearby spoke up. “I think… they might be slugs.”
‘I was thinking the same thing.”
Someone else added, “They’re probably a mutated type of slug.”
Autumn nodded. “Then what are slugs afraid of?”
‘Slugs like moisture and hate sunlight. They usually hide in dark, damp places with lots of decaying plants. Half of the shipyard is underwater, and the other half is on land. It’s the perfect place for slugs to live.”
‘They also hate dry conditions, bright sunlight, and certain chemicals. They love dampness and can’t stand sunlight. If they’re exposed to direct sunlight for two or three days, they’ll die. They lose water very easily, so spreading quicklime, wood ash, or salt anywhere slugs gather can dehydrate them and kill them.”
‘And their natural predators are chickens, ducks, and turtles.”
‘Microorganisms like bacteria, viruses, and nematodes can also kill slugs.”
The team all started throwing out ideas at once.
Autumn reminded them, “Everything you’re talking about is based on slugs before the apocalypse. These mutant slugs have evolved. You all saw how dangerous they are just now. We can’t judge them by the old rules anymore.”
Everyone nodded. “That’s true. Back there, I felt like we were fighting an alien bug swarm. They were terrifying!”
Beckett said, “Even so, one thing probably hasn’t changed. They still like damp places and hate dry ones.”
Everyone nodded in agreement.
“Then how about we burn them out?” Beckett suggested.

Someone objected, “A simple fire probably won’t do it. Slugs are hermaphrodites. Killing only the broodmother isn’t enough. If the broodmother dies, another stug can evolve into a new one. So if we’re going to do this, we have to kill every last one of them. A single fire won’t wipe them all out.”,”
“Sounds like this isn’t something we can handle with a simple plan.” Autumn nodded thoughtfully. “What about incendiary bombs? Armor-piercing rounds? Bunker busters? Thermite incendiaries? But if we use those, all the steel and the ships in the shipyard will be destroyed too.”/
The group fell silent.
Beckett finally said, “We’ll have to make a choice.”
Autumn sighed. “But there are so many half-finished ships. I don’t want to lose them. How about I go back one more time?”
‘No!”
‘Absolutely not!”
‘I don’t agree!”
Before Beckett could even answer, all the young men spoke up at once.
Beckett smiled. “Well, you’ve heard the vote. Give up on that idea.”
When they first took this mission, the dozen or so young men couldn’t understand why their boss respected and admired Autumn ¡o much.
But after coming here, they finally got it.
She had a mysterious storage space that could pull out supplies/nonstop, switch to guns and fight without hesitation, and pack
way anything she wanted. A giant cruise ship? She could store the whole thing in the blink of an eye.
Good grief!
What kind of legendary teammate was this?
She was the one person the entire base had to protect at all costs!
Those young men might not know everything, but they understood survival.
As long as Autumn was safe, they’d never have to worry about food again.
One of the young men said, “If anyone’s going, it should be us. We were lucky just to make it out alive.”
Autumn pouted. “Fine. I was only saying it. Honestly, with the ships we’ve found this time, we already have enough for our 800,000 people. Those luxury cruise ships have a lot of unnecessary facilities. Strip those out and turn it into more cabins. Each ship could carry another 100,000 to 300,000 people. I already have five cruise ships over 100,000 tons, dozens of cargo ships over 10,000 tons. and plenty of smaller 1,000-ton ships.”
Beckett and the others all let out a sigh of relief. “That’s more than enough. We’re not taking any more risks. Let’s play it safe. Let’s focus on wiping out that whole bug nest instead.”
