long silence followed.

Beckett said, “Judging by the direction, this wave came from the central shelter. In other words, they were attacked right after we eft.”
‘I almost feel sorry for them,” Autumn said without any sincerity. “Gordon died too soon. He really should’ve lived long enough to ee what these mutant creatures are capable of.”
‘Let’s feel sorry for ourselves first,” Leonel said. “They’re here.”
As soon as he finished speaking, the approaching horde came into view. Even without binoculars, they could clearly see the nassive, grotesque mutant creatures. Their bizarre appearances made them look more like aliens than anything from Earth. They warmed toward Aurora Base.
‘Pass the order,” Autumn said sternly. “If anyone is found being infested by mutant animals or plants, kill them immediately and burn the body on the spot! That order must be followed without exception. Otherwise, it’ll cause endless trouble!”
Got it.” Beckett immediately turned to pass the order down.
‘Leonel, this fight isn’t for you. Help Mr. Marsh keep the people calm,” Autumn said coldly, pulling a shoulder-fired rocket launcher >ut of her storage space. “Handle logistics!”
‘Be careful.” Leonel gave Autumn a deep look. “If things get completely out of hand, I want you to save yourself first.”
‘I will.” Autumn tilted her head. “I’m not some self-sacrificing hero. I’m scared of dying!”
Leonel smiled, turning and walking away so he wouldn’t hold her back.
The mutant animals were charging across the water.
The sea was deep, the acid rain relentless, yet they advanced without hesitation.
Their dark-gray limbs gave off an eerie, bone-chilling aura.
“My God! What on earth are we fighting?!” someone in the crowd shrieked in despair. “Against humans, we at least stood a chance. But against things like this, how are we supposed to win?”
“Shut up!” someone else cut him off. “Ever since the apocalypse started, hasn’t every single day been a fight for survival? Whether it’s the sky, the earth, or these damn unnamed monsters-we fight! It’s either them or us! Guys, let’s give ’em everything we’ve got!”
“Let’s do it!”
Autumn felt a wave of relief.
The hardships of the apocalypse had awakened humanity’s will to survive.

Chapter-213 The First Wave
Nothing mattered more than staying alive.
Closer, closer, closer. They were finally in range.
Autumn fired the first rocket, kicking off the battle.
Every weapon they had opened fire on the horde.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
The air instantly filled with the smell of gunpowder and the metallic scent of blood.
The mutant animals at the front were blown apart and sank into the sea.
“It works! It actually works! Keep firing, everyone!” A brief cheer rose from the human side.
But before their excitement could last long, larger and far more deadly mutant animals appeared behind the first wave.
This time, they got a clear look.
t was a mutant crab.
ts massive claws glowed with an unnatural, bright purple, making one thing obvious: It was poisonous.

‘Don’t let them get close!” Autumn warned the group. “If you can hit them from a distance, then don’t engage in hand-to-hand combat!”
300m! Boom! Boom!,
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
Shell after shell slammed into the giant crab.
But explosions powerful enough to level a small hill only made it sway slightly. It didn’t even break its defense.
The excitement vanished instantly. Smiles froze on everyone’s faces, turning strange and ridiculous.
Autumn switched to a thermite incendiary round and fired it straight at the giant crab!
In the next breath, the people of Aurora Base saw what true brilliance looked like.
The incendiary burst across the sky and rained down onto the mutant animals.
The charging mutant animals suddenly reacted as if they had encountered something terrifying. They let out piercing shrieks that made everyone’s eardrums ache.
Yet no one dared to blink or cover their ears, terrified they might miss what was unfolding before their eyes.
The seemingly unstoppable giant crab froze the instant the thermite landed on its body. Its hideous face actually twisted into an expression of human-like terror. Then came a shriek.
A brilliant blaze, and then nothing but ashes.
Thermite truly lived up to its nickname-the fireworks of death.
