The heavy door smashed inward like a cannonball, slamming squarely into the guard's chest. With the sickening crunch of shattered ribs, he was launched backward like a broken ragdoll.
The second guard was completely stunned. Before he could even draw his weapon, a slender figure swept into the room like a ghost, carrying a terrifying, murderous aura.
A silver flash cut through the air, faster than lightning.
Slash—
The sound of the blade slicing through flesh set teeth on edge.
The guard's eyes went wide. He clutched desperately at his severed throat, a horrifying, wet gurgling noise escaping his lips before he collapsed heavily to the floor.
Hovering on the brink of death, Lewis and Quinn heard the brutal commotion. They forced their eyes open, trying to make out the figure.
Silhouetted against the dim light from the hallway, a cold, familiar face stepped into their line of sight.
In that instant, a spark of survival ignited in their dim, hopeless eyes.
It was the light breaking through their endless despair.
"Ms. Prescott... you finally... came..."
Having exhausted their last ounce of strength to force out those words, their taut nerves finally snapped. The world went black, and they slipped into a deep coma.
Staring at their skeletal, tortured forms, Phoenix's pupils contracted. She barked an order, "Cyan! Hurry, save them!"
Cyan, her medic, had already rushed forward, immediately beginning emergency triage.
After checking their pulses, she sucked in a sharp breath, whispering in relief, "Thank God we made it! They're clinging to their last breath. If we were a minute later, not even a miracle would have brought them back."
Moving with expert precision, Cyan quickly set up IV lines for both of them, pushing high-concentration glucose into their veins to jolt their dying cells back to life.
Watching the medicine flow steadily into their arms, Phoenix slowly uncurled her fists. A layer of cold sweat had soaked through the back of her shirt.
Thank God her gamble paid off.
Jade was nothing more than an insecure idiot who thought she was brilliant but had zero composure.
Phoenix had intentionally acted like she held all the cards, never expecting to actually fool her. The entire point was to plant a seed of doubt in Jade's mind, forcing her to call Duncan for confirmation.
And the hand she had so casually rested on Jade's shoulder had seamlessly planted a micro-transmitter on her jacket.
The phone call between Jade and Duncan, followed by the frequency Duncan used to contact the basement guards, had all fallen perfectly into her lap.
From there, she rushed over at top speed, mimicking Duncan's voice to trick the guards into opening the door.
