"Why wouldn't I?"
Along with that icy rhetorical question, Phoenix stepped into the crowd's line of sight.
The plaza had been brimming with fury, like a volcano on the brink of eruption, but the moment her silhouette came into focus, the roaring noise fell into an eerie, unnatural silence.
She was dressed in a razor-sharp white silk blouse tucked into a flowing black midi skirt accented with subtle gold thread. Her hair was pulled back into a high, sleek ponytail, exposing her smooth, elegant forehead. The stark black-and-white contrast gave her an aura of lethal, commanding grace.
The vicious curses that had been sitting on the tips of the crowd's tongues were suddenly caught in their throats, as if an invisible hand had choked them back down.
Phoenix climbed the steps and walked to the center of the stage. Her eyes were as piercing as a winter chill, radiating an untouchable nobility and a fierce independence that demanded respect.
At the same time, millions of eyes behind screens were locked onto her stunning figure, watching her step onto the very platform they had built to be her execution block.
"She's here. She's finally here." Phoebe's breathing grew frantic, her nails digging hard into her palms. A twisted excitement flared in her eyes; she couldn't wait to see Phoenix dragged through the mud and become an outcast hated by the world.
"You've been arrogant for too long, Phoenix. It's time for you to crawl back to the hell you belong in."
On the other side of the screen, Warren, Vanessa, Julian, Ian, and even Sebastian were all glued to the broadcast, waiting for the final verdict to drop.
"Phoenix, you ruined my life. Now just wait to be torn to shreds by an angry mob," Ian spat. He reached up, his trembling fingers brushing against the heavy bandages covering his ruined face, his eyes swimming with venom. "It's just a shame I couldn't end you myself. But that's fine. After you're dead, I'll spit on your grave to make myself feel better!"
In the corner, Sebastian curled into a ball, his eyes dead-locked on Phoenix's image.
If that bitch hadn't exposed his plagiarism, he would still be the darling of MK Global, signing a massive international partnership right now, instead of hiding like a rat in the gutter.
In stark contrast, Vanessa and Julian wore expressions of helpless agony.
Were they really going to push Phoenix to her absolute death? But at this point, who could stop it?
This media storm had already escalated into a tidal wave capable of swallowing everything in its path, and even the authorities were watching closely. The moment the public outrage peaked, the police would undoubtedly step in and arrest Phoenix to appease the masses.
When that happened, she would be facing an impossibly long prison sentence. There would be no coming back.
And with Warren and Phoebe's viciousness, they would likely use the chaos to have Phoenix completely eradicated.
"Mom, are we seriously going to just stand by and watch them push her off a cliff?" Julian's brow furrowed tightly as he looked at Vanessa, his voice raspy. "Phoenix has suffered too much. We can't keep being this selfish, turning a blind eye just to save our own skins again."
