Outcast Queen: Her Return from Hell novel Chapter 308

Phoenix fell silent. The internal conflicts of the Sterling family were far more complex than she had anticipated. It seemed Silas's obsession with seizing power wasn't entirely his own idea.

Someone was likely pulling the strings from the shadows, manipulating the entire situation.

“Let's drop it for now. Aren't you heading back to the office? Since I'm officially an unemployed ex-CEO, how about I be your assistant?” Pierce swapped his intense demeanor for an easygoing smirk, jokingly offering his services to Phoenix.

Phoenix rolled her eyes. “You were the CEO of the Sterling Group. Being my assistant is way beneath you.”

“How could it possibly be beneath me?” Pierce flashed a teasing grin. “You're my wife. A husband serving his wife is the most natural thing in the world.”

Phoenix's heart gave an unexpected flutter. She glanced over, locking onto his playful gaze.

Was this guy being serious, or just messing with her? Their business arrangement was nearing its end; there was no need to keep up the intimate act, right?

“Hey, what's with that look?” Pierce frowned when he saw her staring blankly at him. “I know I'm handsome, but you don't have to short-circuit over it.”

“Get out!” Phoenix fired a sharp glare at him. “Don't think I don't know the truth, Pierce. You might not be the CEO of the Sterling Group anymore, but you're still the CEO of Draco Enterprises.”

Pierce's pupils contracted, his eyes widening in sheer shock as he looked at her.

“You know about that too?”

Phoenix's lips curved into a confident smirk, her stunning eyes radiating a sharp, brilliant intelligence.

“If I want to know something, I find it out.”

“Ha, you really are arrogant. But then again, you have the skills to back it up.” Pierce shook his head. After all, this woman was the handpicked successor trained by *her*.

Inside the boardroom of the Prescott Group.

The room was packed with executives, leaving only one seat empty.

“This is completely unprofessional!” A board member tapped the table, venting his frustration. “Do you see the time? She's still not here. She doesn't respect us at all!”

“Exactly! Miss Prescott might have secured two major projects for the company, but she has no right to act like she owns the place!”

“Let's just start without her. Why are we even waiting?”

The shareholders were practically boiling with resentment, loudly condemning Phoenix for her tardiness.

“Everyone, please calm down.” Warren offered a patient, gentle smile. “Phoenix might just be tied up with something important. Let's give her a few more minutes.”

The room shot Warren a collective look of confusion. What was going on with this guy? He had been constantly trying to sabotage Phoenix before, and now... he was defending her?
