Melody had expected Caleb to look surprised, or at least show a shred of respect. Instead, he was calm—so calm it made her stomach twist with irritation.
She held her tongue for a moment before asking, "Well?"
Caleb set the papers back on the desk. "It's alright," he said evenly.
The smile vanished from Melody's face.
She looked up at him. "Alright?"
Just alright?
"Yeah, it's fine."
"Even by domestic standards, this resume is far from average."
Caleb tapped the edge of the folder, his tone unchanging. "For a regular person, it's pretty good."
Melody's expression darkened. "Then who exactly is it not good enough for?"
Caleb didn't answer. He simply looked up at her.
Melody squirmed slightly under his gaze, her hands slowly clenching in her lap.
She had assumed that pulling out her resume would instantly make him drop his dismissive attitude.
Instead, he didn't even care to give her a second glance.
The sheer disappointment made her chest feel tight.
Just then, Caleb's phone rang.
He glanced at the caller ID, stood up, and said, "Excuse me."
Melody watched him leave, a cold glint slowly surfacing in her eyes.
As the door to the reception room clicked shut, the room fell silent.
Her gaze drifted toward the stairs as she weighed her options.
Caleb had made his stance perfectly clear—he had no intention of introducing her to Professor Monroe.
Since that was the case, she would just go find the professor herself.
She refused to believe that someone with her outstanding qualifications would be left out in the cold.
Melody stood up, grabbed her purse, and headed straight upstairs.
She searched from the second floor to the third, finally stopping outside an office.
