Seraphina nearly dropped the folder in her hands. "Lucian!"
This time, the doctor laughed out loud.
Once the paperwork was finalized, Christian carried their luggage out to the car.
Seraphina pushed Lucian's wheelchair into the parking garage, checking her phone. "Grandma Eleanor said they're almost here. She brought Little Bean."
He looked up at her. "Miss the kid?"
"I do."
Suddenly, a grating, overly sweet voice called out from nearby. "Seraphina."
Sienna stepped out from behind a parked SUV. Her makeup was heavy, and her outfit was practically screaming for attention.
Her gaze swept over Lucian's legs, a flash of pure schadenfreude dancing in her eyes.
"I'm so glad you're okay."
Seraphina stopped the wheelchair. "Get out of the way."
Sienna took a half step forward. "I'm genuinely worried about you. After all, things can't be easy for you right now."
Lucian shot her a frigid glare. "Is there something you want, Sienna?"
"Lucian, I wouldn't dare cause trouble. I just heard the wild rumors floating around and wanted to check in on my sister."
She leaned in close to Seraphina, dropping her voice to a poisonous whisper. "He got hurt pretty badly, didn't he? Word on the street is that with his legs like that, maybe his other parts are broken too..."
Seraphina's eyes turned lethal. "Are you done?"
Sienna covered her mouth with a mockingly sympathetic laugh. "A woman has needs, you know. Want me to introduce you to a few male models? They're young, obedient, and completely discreet. It'd save you from sleeping in an empty bed."
*Smack.*
The sharp slap echoed violently across the concrete garage.
Sienna staggered back, clutching her cheek in shock. "Did you just hit me?"
Seraphina glared at her with pure disgust. "If you're sick in the head, the psychiatric ward is on the first floor. Don't pull this garbage in front of me."
Sienna turned to Lucian, forcing tears into her eyes. "Lucian, are you really going to let her bully me like this?"
He stared right through her. "She went too easy on you."
Sienna's face turned an ugly shade of green.
Seraphina shoved the wheelchair forward. "I said, get out of the way."
Sienna scrambled backward but couldn't help shooting one last venomous barb. "You're acting tough now, but you'll regret this."
Seraphina didn't even turn around. "My biggest regret is ever treating you like a human being."
Sienna stormed off, her high heels clicking frantically in retreat.
Lucian watched her leave, his expression darkening. "What did she say to you?"
"Nothing."
