My Unborn Baby Chose My Husband for Me novel Chapter 447

Evie's heart seized in her chest, and she frantically waved her hands. "Nothing. I didn't mean anything by it."

Seraphina calmly placed the spoon back into the bowl, observing in silence.

Lucian's expression darkened ominously. "Evie. Seraphina is my wife."

"I know."

"Think very carefully before you open your mouth again."

Evie's face flushed hot red with humiliation. "Lucian, I was just worried about you."

"You can worry."

Lucian locked eyes with her. "But disrespecting her is completely off the table."

Evie clenched her fists so hard her manicured nails dug painfully into her palms. "I didn't."

Eleanor cast a weary glance at her. "Go home, Evie. Seraphina will take care of him."

"No."

"I don't want to go home. I'm staying right here to take care of him..."

It was as if Lucian hadn't heard a single word Evie said. He turned all his attention back to Seraphina. "Have you eaten yet?"

Seraphina shook her head. "I'm not hungry."

"Tell Christian to grab you some soup."

"Worry about yourself first."

"I'm awake now. You need to eat and go to sleep."

Standing awkwardly to the side, Evie's face crumpled inch by agonizing inch.

She waited in suffocating silence, but Lucian refused to acknowledge her presence again.

Seraphina eventually glanced her way. "Do you want to sit down?"

Evie scoffed coldly. "No thanks."

She stubbornly waited for Lucian to chide her, to act like the protective older brother and insist she rest.

But he said absolutely nothing.

Instead, Lucian simply pulled Seraphina's hand back into his. "Sit closer. Get off your feet."

Evie's chest heaved with bitter resentment. She spun on her heel and stormed out.

She slammed the door shut behind her.

Seraphina stared at the closed door. "She seems pretty upset."

"She's been horribly spoiled since birth."

Lucian absently stroked the back of her hand. "She's just throwing a tantrum. Let her cool off."

Seraphina didn't respond to that.

Remembering Little Bean's warning about Evie's erratic heart rate, she lowered her eyes, stirring the soup methodically.

Catching her sudden shift in mood, Lucian asked, "What is it?"

"Grandma Eleanor told me the estate received a ransom note."

Lucian's gaze instantly sharpened into something lethal. "When?"

"Not long after we disappeared."

Seraphina placed the bowl on the nightstand. "It demanded a hundred million dollars. They left it straight in the estate's mailbox—no digital trail, no wire routing numbers. The letters were literally cut out of magazines."
