My Unborn Baby Chose My Husband for Me novel Chapter 446

Dark circles bruised the delicate skin beneath her eyes, and fresh, untreated scrapes marred her arms.

"Why aren't you resting?" he rasped out.

Seraphina gripped the edge of the mattress, refusing to look away. "I needed to see you wake up."

"You're an idiot."

"Don't speak."

Seraphina grabbed a cotton swab from the nightstand, dipped it in a cup, and gently moistened his parched lips. "The doctor said you need to stay perfectly still until your vitals stabilize. Just breathe."

Lucian ignored the directive, devouring her features with his eyes. "Are you hurt anywhere?"

"I'm perfectly fine."

"What about your neck?"

Seraphina touched her collar, keeping her voice light. "It doesn't hurt anymore. Look at you, barely conscious and already interrogating me."

"If I don't interrogate you, you'll pretend you're invincible."

Lucian's voice was violently hoarse, yet his gaze remained fiercely unyielding. "Show me your hands."

"Why?"

"Show me."

Seraphina hesitantly extended her hands.

Lucian was too weak to lift his arms, but his fingers lightly traced the ugly, blooming bruises on her knuckles.

"You call this fine?"

"It's nothing serious."

"Seraphina." Lucian's voice plummeted into a dangerous, dark octave.

She snatched her hands back and grabbed the thermal food container. "Let's get some food in you. You must be starving."

Lucian watched her bustle around the bed. "I am."

Seraphina popped the lid off and stirred the warm soup with a spoon. "Have a little of this. The doctor said strictly clear liquids to start."

Lucian sank back into the pillows, his tone suddenly dry. "That cornbread you scavenged was atrocious."

Seraphina's stirring halted.

Lucian stared right at her. "Even worse than those berries you found."

Seraphina's lips twitched violently. "Do not bring up the berries."

"Why not?"

"Because I checked my phone after we got back, and apparently, those berries are slightly toxic."

Lucian fell utterly silent for two long seconds.

Seraphina shoved the spoon toward his mouth. "Good thing we barely ate any, or we would've met our ancestors long before Zeke ever got his hands on us."
