Seraphina didn't hesitate for a second. She snatched the vial of antibiotics and shoved it deep into the pocket of Lucian's suit jacket.
Earlier, on the way from The Wood Shed, Lucian had draped his jacket over her shoulders, ordering her to protect herself at all costs.
In a lawless place like this, beauty and vulnerability were a lethal combination.
"I won't let you down. I'm a doctor. I know exactly what I'm doing," Seraphina replied, her voice firm.
She knelt by the bed, her palms slick with cold sweat.
The man on the bed was gasping for air, his breathing growing increasingly ragged. The flesh surrounding his shoulder wound had already turned a horrifying shade of purplish-black.
If they waited another few hours, sepsis would set in. Not even God himself could pull him back then.
She stood up and turned to Zeke.
Zeke didn't say a word, just narrowed his eyes, waiting for her demands.
"Tell her to boil a large pot of water," Seraphina commanded, tilting her chin toward Mina.
Mina let out a harsh bark of laughter. "Who the hell do you think you are, ordering me around?"
Seraphina completely ignored her and kept her eyes on Zeke. "I want you to personally take food and water to my husband in The Wood Shed. Make sure he is perfectly safe."
"And find me a bottle of the strongest liquor you have. I need it to sterilize my tools."
Zeke remained silent, his piercing gaze locked onto Seraphina unblinking.
Any normal person would have crumbled under the sheer intimidation of that stare.
But Seraphina forced herself to hold his gaze, adding coldly, "If my husband loses a single hair on his head, the knife in my hand won't be used for surgery."
Mina clicked her tongue in disgust and stepped forward. "What gives you the right to negotiate with us?"
Zeke raised an arm, blocking Mina.
He shot a glance at the dying man on the bed, then turned to Mina. "Go boil the water. I'll take the food."
"Why the hell am I always the one doing the chores?" Mina glared at him furiously.
Zeke didn't repeat himself. He just stared her down with lethal intensity.
Mina ground her teeth, cursing loudly under her breath as she stomped off toward the kitchen.
Zeke stepped out of the room as well.
Suddenly, Mina stopped in her tracks, a twisted idea forming in her head. She spun around to face Zeke. "You boil the water. I'll take the food."
Zeke halted. He didn't answer right away, just leveled a warning look at her.
"Relax. I'm just gonna have a little fun. I won't kill him."
