Jules dug his pinky into his ear, completely unfazed.
He calmly picked up a basin of dirty water sitting on the balcony railing and dumped it straight down without a second thought.
"Ahhhh!!!"
A piercing shriek erupted from the courtyard below.
Jules turned back toward his dorm, ignoring the four roommates staring at him with their jaws on the floor.
"What are you looking at? Go to sleep!"
He climbed into bed and yanked the covers over his head, thoroughly unbothered by the sobbing girl outside.
By the time Clara and Ethan arrived back at the Lambert estate, it was nearly midnight.
Jonathan and Vera still weren't home. Only Serena was sitting in the living room practicing the piano. The moment she heard the front door open, she shot up from the bench.
When she saw Ethan walk in completely unscathed, her eyes widened in shock.
Lillian had promised her the plan was foolproof! Why had it failed?!
A million thoughts raced through Serena's mind, but she quickly masked her panic with a look of overwhelming concern. "Ethan, you're finally home! Are you hungry? Let me get you something to eat..."
Before she could finish her performance, Clara grabbed Ethan by the collar and dragged him straight up the stairs.
Clara kicked Ethan's bedroom door open.
It was a massive room, but every conceivable surface—the closet, the desk, the floor, the balcony—was buried under a mountain of expensive gaming consoles.
"Which one have you been playing the most lately?" she demanded icily.
Her freezing tone made Ethan flinch.
He pointed a trembling finger at a sleek, metallic console on his desk. "My mom just bought me that one..."
Clara walked over, picked it up, and squeezed. With a terrifying crunch, the console, worth thousands of dollars, shattered into a useless pile of plastic and wires.
Absolutely infuriating!
"Clara, what gives you the right to treat him like this?!" Serena positioned herself protectively in front of Ethan. "You've completely ignored him for six years! You've never cared about his life or his grades, so what makes you think you can march back in here and force him to be your perfect little puppet? He might not be my biological brother, but I've always loved and protected him like my own! I won't let you bully him!"
Clara didn't even acknowledge Serena's existence. She kept her cold gaze fixed entirely on the boy standing behind her and asked deliberately, "So you agree with her? You think I have no right to discipline you?"
Ethan pressed his lips tightly together, remaining silent.
He didn't have many concrete memories of his early childhood, but he still vaguely remembered waiting for someone to come home.
He had been waiting for his big sister. But once she left, she had never returned.
Deep down, he knew he hated her.
He hated her for causing their mother's death.
And he hated her for abandoning him.
