The crisp spring morning carried a slight chill.
Clara woke up early. As she brushed her teeth and washed her face, she was constantly mumbling to herself.
If someone listened closely, they'd realize she was reciting vocabulary words.
She had discovered that her memory had genuinely improved by leaps and bounds. It was as if reading a word just once carved it permanently into her brain, making it impossible to forget.
Just in the time it took to brush her teeth, she had memorized over twenty new words.
After finishing her routine, she pulled a slightly faded denim jacket from her closet, threw it over her shoulders, and headed downstairs.
A lavish breakfast was already laid out in the dining room.
Jonathan and Vera were sitting at the table, discussing the morning news.
Seeing her come down, Jonathan smiled warmly. "Clara, I had my secretary pick up this new phone for you. Keep it on you when you go out. If you're going to be late coming home, just give us a call."
A sleek, brand-new phone was resting next to her plate.
Clara replied smoothly, "Thanks, Dad, but I don't need it. Ethan gave me a phone last night."
Vera's fingers twitched around her coffee mug.
Since when did Ethan give a damn about this little brat?
For the past six years, Vera had carefully poisoned the minds of Pearl's four sons, molding them to absolutely despise their sister.
Clara had been back for barely two days, and Ethan was already switching sides?
Was blood loyalty really that impossible to sever?
Vera lowered her eyes, masking the lethal calculation swimming in her gaze.
"How thoughtful of Ethan," Jonathan beamed, genuinely pleased. "Clara, eat your breakfast. From now on, you and Serena will commute to school together."
Serena was just stepping out of her room when she heard those words.
She absolutely refused to endure that humiliation!
Vera looked on with overwhelming pride. "Your aunt mentioned there's a massive national piano competition in Boston next month. If Serena places in the top three, it will guarantee her major advantages for college admissions. She's been playing for over a decade and has an incredible foundation. Snagging a top-three spot will be a breeze."
Serena smirked triumphantly.
She had started playing at age three and won the city championship by age ten. She now held the top-tier piano certification, and the family's bookshelves were overflowing with her trophies and awards.
These were her crowns.
Crowns that a pathetic piece of trash like Clara could never touch!
Jonathan nodded approvingly. "Your Aunt Beatrice is a nationally renowned piano professor. Pay close attention to her, and don't disappoint her."
"I won't, Dad," Serena said obediently.
She shot Clara a smug, sideways glance, fully expecting to see the girl writhing in jealous agony.
