Mission: Revenge – The Heiress's Second Life novel Chapter 11

Clara looked up as a man in his forties walked into the room.

It was her biological father, Jonathan Lambert.

Her happiest memories were from before she turned twelve, when her mother was still alive, her father doted on her, and her younger brothers adored her.

She had always believed her parents were deeply in love.

That illusion shattered when Vera moved into the Lambert estate with Serena, a girl only a few months younger than Clara. It was then she realized her father had an affair the moment her mother had gotten pregnant.

After Serena joined the family, Clara never felt her father's warmth again.

And her four brothers, who had once been the family's pride, were manipulated by Vera into despising Clara. The entire social circle was led to believe that Clara and the boys were a disgrace to the Lambert name. For the ten years Clara spent confined to a hospital bed, her father never once came to visit.

"Dad..."

Serena sobbed, throwing herself into Jonathan's arms.

"My hair!" she wailed, playing the victim perfectly. "It's all gone! Clara shaved it off! All because I didn't give her the room she wanted yesterday. If she had just talked to me, I would have moved out... but she sneaked into my room and shaved my head! I'm so miserable, Dad! I don't even want to live anymore!"

Clara met her father's gaze without flinching.

"First of all," she said calmly, "Mr. Harrison has already checked. There's no sign of anyone breaking into Serena's room. Second, this is my first time meeting her. Even if we didn't get along, I wouldn't do something so unhinged. If you don't believe me, you can send me right back to the countryside. I've survived there for six years; I can handle the rest of my life."

She lowered her eyes, nervously twisting the hem of her shirt to play the part of a timid girl.

She spun around and bolted out of the room.

In the past, whenever she threw a tantrum and ran off, Jonathan had always chased after her.

It was a manipulation tactic that had never failed.

But today, Jonathan stood perfectly still.

Vera, who had been watching silently from the sidelines, felt a suffocating wave of dread.

It seemed she had severely underestimated Clara's place in this man's heart.
