Stepping forward, Vera forced a concerned tone. "Serena has always taken pride in her appearance. Losing her hair so suddenly... the psychological toll is too much. She might do something reckless. Jonathan, you have to go after her. I'm terrified she might get hurt."
Jonathan let out a heavy sigh.
He truly felt guilty for missing twelve years of Serena's life.
He turned, ready to go after her.
But Clara chimed in softly. "Serena is furious right now. If Dad goes after her, it might just make things worse. Why doesn't Vera go check on her instead?"
Jonathan paused. "That makes sense. Vera, go make sure she's okay. Call me immediately if anything happens."
Vera's eyes narrowed as she shot Clara a glacial look.
For the past six years, she had paid people to keep tabs on Clara. Every report claimed the girl was a spineless, unpresentable coward.
She thought manipulating Clara would be a walk in the park.
Clearly, the reports were wrong.
Clara met her glare with wide, innocent eyes. "You should hurry, Vera. If you wait any longer, you might lose her."
Her jaw tight, Vera pivoted on her heels and marched out.
A subtle, calculating smirk touched the corners of Clara's lips.
Serena loved monopolizing their father's attention and flaunting his affection. Clara was going to systematically dismantle the very privilege her stepsister prided herself on.
"Serena has a fiery temper, but she has a good heart," Jonathan said, looking at the young woman before him. "You've grown up, Clara."
Clara smiled sweetly. "I have. I'll be eighteen in a few months."
"I want to go to Springfield First Academy," she said firmly.
To rewrite her tragic fate, she needed the best education the city had to offer.
"Excellent! That's my girl," Jonathan laughed, visibly pleased. "I've already pulled some strings at the Academy. You can enroll today. I actually have some free time right now, so let me take you myself."
Clara pressed her lips together.
He had already prepared a spot for her. In her past life, Vera had simply intercepted the plan and dragged her to a third-rate public school instead.
