Married to the Billionaire Who Betrayed Me novel Chapter 234

Chapter 234- We Have To Leave Him

The glowing text burned my eyes.

Geneva, Switzerland. An underground masquerade gala. The proxy carries the drive.

I read the words on the laptop screen three times. Geneva represented the playground of the corrupt elite. A fortress of old money and hidden secrets. Sterling kept his leverage far from the capital. He hid the evidence across an ocean.

Tristan stepped up behind me. He leaned over my shoulder. His broad chest pressed against my back. He read the encrypted message from Ricardo. The silence in the bunker turned heavy.

“Forty-eight hours,” I said. “We have two days to cross a border, navigate a foreign country, and infiltrate a gala. We do not possess passports. Sterling flagged our names on every international watch list.”

“We have the forged documents in the lockbox, Tristan stated. He stepped back. He paced the concrete floor.

‘Forged documents work for commercial borders,” I corrected. I turned in the metal chair to face him. “They fail at private biometric checkpoints. The federal government locked the airspace. We cannot rent a jet.”

“We will not rent a jet, Tristan said. His gray eyes assessed the corners of the room. The warlord calculated the odds. “We will use a smuggler. The eastern syndicate maintains supply routes. Cargo planes flying under the radar. Illegal weapons. Stolen art. We fly with the contraband.”

‘You want to trust the syndicate?’ I asked. “The same men Julian hired to kill us?”

“I ran that syndicate,’ Tristan reminded me. His voice dropped to a lethal rumble. “Julian bought a few rogue lieutenants. The core structure still fears me.

They value cash over federal loyalties. I will buy a route.”

I watched the muscles in his jaw flex. He carried the weight of our survival. The Johnston titan traded his bespoke suits for the dirt of the underworld. He accepted the shift without a single complaint. He fought for his family.

I stood up. I walked across the dusty floor to the narrow cot.

Elias slept on his side. He clutched his plastic airplane against his chest. His breathing sounded even and deep. The sight of his small, peaceful face carved a hole in my chest. A dull, throbbing pain radiated through my ribs. Leaving him felt like cutting off a limb.

“He stays with Diego, Tristan said. He followed me. He stood at my side. “We cannot bring him to Europe. We cannot bring himento a war zone.”

“I know,” I whispered. I reached down. I brushed a lock of dark hair from Elias’s forehead. His skin felt warm. “H we fail, Sterling takes him. He puts him in the system. He erases his name. Thomas Whitmore did the same thing to my mother.”

‘Always, I answered.

I tightened my grip on his shoulders. The tension in my core snapped. A blinding release shattered my senses. I trembled in his arms. His chest heaved against mine. He finished a heartbeat later, a ragged groan echoing in the tiny space. He buried his face in my neck. He held me tight against the wall.

We stood in the dark. Our breathing slowed. The frantic beat of my heart leveled out.

‘I will call the pilot, Tristan promised. He pressed a kiss to my temple. “We leave in an hour.”

We adjusted our clothes. We exited the closet. The cold air of the main bunker hit my flushed skin. The panic receded. A cold, clear focus replaced the fear.

The laptop screen flashed on the metal table. A secure audio icon appeared. Ricardo initiated a voice link.

I walked to the table. I pressed the connect key.

‘I am on a routed connection, Ricardo said. His voice sounded thin through the speakers. “I have the details for Geneva.*

“Talk,” I commanded.
