Madly Yours (Nora Reed) novel Chapter 75

Word traveled fast.

By noon, the entire talent management department knew that Leo had not only cooperated flawlessly with Nora but had actually brought her breakfast.

When Serena heard the news, she was in the breakroom making coffee.

She slammed her mug down on the counter with a loud crack. Scalding coffee splashed over the back of her hand, but she was too furious to even feel the burn.

Who did Jade think she was?

Serena had been with the company for two years, and she had been kicked off Leo's management team after just three days.

Three days...

She had been thrown out before she could even submit a single song recommendation.

And Jade, a complete rookie, had somehow tamed Leo by her second day?

And he was bringing her breakfast?

Serena glared intensely at the rippling dark liquid in her mug, staring at her own twisted reflection.

She had read Jade's resume and run a background check online.

There was absolutely no record of her educational history in the national database.

Someone like that had either dropped out of high school or... had never attended a real school at all.

Serena narrowed her eyes.

This Jade girl had completely fabricated her resume. Aside from her pretty face, she had absolutely nothing to offer.

What kind of place was Star Entertainment?

It was one of the premier entertainment agencies in San Francisco, and now that the Lancaster family had acquired it, its prestige was through the roof.

How did someone like her get into Star?

The answer was glaringly obvious.

Serena carried her coffee back to her desk, unlocked her phone, and opened the company's main group chat.

Her fingers hovered over the screen for a few seconds before she started typing.

She didn't post it herself. Instead, she forwarded the message to the worst gossips in the office.

[Did you guys hear? That new girl, Jade—her entire resume is fake. You can't even find a record of her graduating high school in the database. The only way someone like that gets into Star is by sleeping her way to the top...]

Arthur stepped back and offered her a polite gesture to enter.

Nora pushed the door open, her footsteps faltering.

She had expected an office, but it was actually a luxurious private dining area.

The room featured warm gray walls, dark hardwood floors, and a round table set by the window. The table was draped in a cream linen cloth and covered with seven or eight exquisitely plated dishes.

There was steamed coral trout, wine-marinated crab, chicken and matsutake mushroom soup, black truffle fried rice, honey-glazed BBQ pork, and a clay pot holding what looked like a slow-simmered broth.

Hudson sat on one side of the table. Today, he was wearing a crisp white dress shirt, the sleeves rolled up twice to reveal his pale, muscular forearms.

He looked up at her, a faint smirk playing on his lips. "What are you standing there for? Come sit."

Nora walked over and took the seat across from him.

"This is so much food. Just for the two of us?"

"Yeah." Hudson scooped a bowl of soup and slid it across the table toward her. "Drink the soup first. It's been simmering all morning."

Nora took the bowl and took a small sip.

The rich, savory flavor exploded on her tongue, sending a rush of warmth all the way to her fingertips.
