Madly Yours (Nora Reed) novel Chapter 656

Jude looked up, his gaze drifting into the swirling curtain of snow. His voice grew faint. "Since Evangeline is back, I want to fulfill the engagement."

Hudson stopped chewing on his mint, turning his head to look at him. "Oh? Figured things out, have you?"

Jude smiled. "Evangeline doesn't want to go back to the Fairchilds, and it's been giving them a huge headache. I figured I could step in and help out. Give the Fairchilds some peace of mind."

Hudson stared at him for a solid two seconds before letting out a laugh. He clapped Jude on the shoulder. "Alright. Next time I see Finnian, I'll make sure to mention this. He owes you a deep bow of gratitude."

Jude stumbled forward slightly from the slap. Once he regained his balance, he punched Hudson lightly on the arm. "Get lost."

The two men shared a knowing smile, their unspoken understanding hanging in the crisp air.

...

Early the next morning, Hudson and Nora flew back to San Francisco.

The late winter air in San Francisco was still pleasantly warm, a complete contrast to the biting winds of Northampton.

As Hudson and Nora walked out of the VIP terminal hand-in-hand, his phone buzzed.

He glanced down at the caller ID, his brow twitching imperceptibly before he answered. "Grandmother..."

Beatrice Lancaster's slightly raspy voice came through the line. "You're back in San Francisco, aren't you? Come over to Lancaster Hall. I have something important to discuss with you."

Hudson didn't break his stride, replying evenly, "Understood."

As he hung up, a cold smirk played at the corners of his lips.

He had barely touched down, and she was already calling.

Her intelligence network was terrifyingly precise.

Soon, the black Maybach was cruising down the tree-lined avenues of Azure Bay. The palm trees outside blurred into streaks of green as they sped by.

Nora turned her head. Hudson was leaning back in his seat, his jaw tight, his profile as sharp and unforgiving as chiseled stone.

She reached out and placed her hand over his as it rested on his knee.

Hudson's fingers twitched before he flipped his hand over, intertwining his fingers with hers.

"Are you tired?"

Nora quickly shook her head.

Remembering the terrifying ordeal from their last visit to Lancaster Hall, she squeezed his hand a little tighter. "Why did your grandmother ask us to come over?"

Hudson chuckled softly. "I have no idea. But don't worry, your husband is here."
