Hudson leaned back into the sofa, ignoring the barrage of questions. He calmly picked up the teapot, poured himself a cup, and took a slow, unhurried sip.
Grant was just about to continue his lecture when the door to the private room swung open again.
Seeing the person walk in, Grant shot to his feet. "Nora?"
He blinked in utter confusion, trying to process the situation. Weren't these two officially divorced?
He instinctively turned to look at Sebastian, and the two exchanged a completely baffled stare—*What the hell was going on?*
*Did she regret it this quickly?*
But as the two of them stood there gaping like fish, Hudson seamlessly reached out, grabbed Nora's hand, and pulled her down into the seat beside him. "Is it done?"
Nora nodded eagerly. "Olive took the Ivory Pill back with her. We're going to have Dr. Silas Vane verify if it's authentic first..."
She pressed her lips together. "But we couldn't find the other thing... and River refused to talk. So, I had Olive take him back to Cloudwater Estate."
"No rush. Let's keep him locked up for now. We can handle the rest later."
Sitting across from them, Grant and Sebastian exchanged blank stares, feeling like they were watching a movie entirely in a language they didn't speak.
Grant couldn't hold it in any longer. "No, wait. Hudson, what is... what are you two..."
"Relax, we're not divorced." Hudson leaned back lazily. "It was just an act..."
Grant immediately pressed for details. "An act? For who?"
"For the dogs!"
"..."
Grant wisely decided not to ask any more questions. Any further inquiries would put him on the same intellectual level as Bane the hound.
Either way, it clearly wasn't an act meant for him.
...
The week-long company retreat passed by in the blink of an eye.
Early the next morning, the staff from Star Entertainment boarded their buses, ready for the journey back.
Meanwhile, after several rounds of intense negotiations, Hudson and the Sawyer family had finally hammered out the preliminary framework for their partnership.
The equity ratio for the mining resources, the scope of the microchip technology licensing, and the specifics of the profit-sharing had all been painstakingly detailed. Both parties officially signed the letter of intent.
Before leaving, Spencer shook Hudson's hand firmly, promising to fly to San Francisco once the final contracts were drawn up.
Hudson offered a noncommittal response, his gaze drifting toward a convoy of black SUVs parked a short distance away.
Both Star Entertainment and the Sawyer family had already departed, yet those dozen or so vehicles remained parked by the road, completely motionless.
