Madly Yours (Nora Reed) novel Chapter 605

"Let's go."

Hudson wrapped an arm around Nora's shoulders. "We aren't going to get anything useful out of her. Why don't you go get some fresh air in the courtyard? I'll go talk to Arnold..."

Before he could finish, Nora shook her head. "I'm coming with you."

A faint smile touched Hudson's lips, his voice incredibly soft. "Alright."

Arnold Vance was kept in a separate ward, locked in an isolated cell at the very end of the hall.

When Hudson and Nora arrived, he was repeatedly banging his head against the wall. The air in the room reeked of stale urine and filth.

He had lost a massive amount of weight. His cheekbones jutted out sharply, his eye sockets were sunken, and his hair, now mostly white, clung greasily to his scalp.

His blue-and-white striped hospital gown was so filthy its original color was gone. A large dark stain covered the crotch of his pants, explaining the foul stench radiating from him.

Hearing their footsteps, he slowly raised his head, squinting under the dim lights until he finally recognized the man standing at the door.

The next second, he lunged at the iron bars, collapsing to his knees and slamming his head against the floor like a madman. "Mr. Lancaster! I was wrong! I'll never do it again! Let me out! I'm begging you... I can't take this anymore, I really can't..."

Tears and snot smeared his face. His forehead hit the concrete floor with a dull thud, but he didn't seem to feel the pain. "I won't do it again, I swear... I'll do whatever you want. If you keep me locked up in here, I'm going to lose my mind. I'm going to go insane. Please, just let me out..."

He desperately shoved his face between the iron bars, reaching his bony, claw-like hands out into the hallway, grasping at the air.

The sickening stench grew stronger as he thrashed about, making it hard to breathe.

Nora frowned and took a half-step back, repulsed by the very air around him.

Hudson pulled her closer, casually raising a hand to shield her face from the smell. His voice was freezing. "Let me ask you this. Did you know Nora isn't Penelope's biological daughter?"

The question stopped Arnold dead in his tracks.
